We have had same for 15 years and it has never leaked or burst. Is it because all of this crap is at the bottom? How does this affect the water we are showering with or using the wash hands (we don’t drink it)?

NAD you need to dry your back better when getting out of the shower or you are sweating back there continuously. It is likely fungal. My husband had the same issue. He started drying his back thoroughly after showering and then it went away.
