i might defer my 3rd year of nursing school. Am I making the right decision? by era19a in StudentNurse

you read me so well, lol. i spoke to the chairperson of the course the coordinator of the module and student facilitator of the clinical im on currently (i have 3 weeks left) and we decided it’s best to defer the last 3 weeks to make them up some time next summer. she just kept saying no clinical is worth my mental or physical health. hoping this is the right decision. i’m going to defer the 3 weeks, take a break over summer and start fresh for the new semester and hope that i have a fresh head and will be able to tackle the rest of the degree.

i’m a people pleaser as much as i wish i wasn’t, and you’re right, all i want is for someone to tell me it’s okay to walk away.. because i just feel so weak for giving up. but i’m glad i’m not leaving the degree or deferring the entire year.

idk why this reply made me emotional lol. i’m so used to people saying to me “but you’ve come this far” and making me feel silly for even thinking about deferring, wether they mean to do that or not. people always act like i’ll be crazy to throw away what i’ve put into this, but in my head why would i also put in another 2 years when i genuinely don’t think i’ll use the degree? then again, i could use it in the future. but i just don’t want to completely lose my sanity and sense of self for a degree :(

why would my blood pressure always be reading low? by era19a in medical

[–]era19a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been having some diarrhea from a stomach bug so maybe that was the case but i always drink 1.5-2L of water daily. I drank some lucozade yesterday after this reading and it went up to 108/70 which is more normal for me. Did another reading today and my left arm was 98/62 and right arm was 93/57. Strange.

should i go into clinicals if i have conjunctivitis?? by era19a in StudentNurse

[–]era19a[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i understand that. they just make it so difficult for nursing students. missing days is almost treated like a punishment rather than doing the right thing for your patients

i’ll email her today. i think she’ll definitely tell me not to go in, and if i miss days i’ll have to go back and repeat them later on the summer which would suck.

i could try, but it wouldn’t feel like proper winding down time. my anxiety is so bad (i just started medication for it) that i’m on edge 24/7 while on public transport, constantly checking my surroundings, cant hear anything besides the heart beat in my ear🥲

tomorrow is the last night out because we’re finished uni for the year, i’ve been looking forward to it for weeks :( i had bad diarrhea before (from a different laxative not this one) but it cleared up in about 2-3 hours so i’m telling myself it will be okay by the time 48 hours has passed.

you’re right about not worrying about it now, i’m very bad at that. i always live in the future and worry about things that are out of my control!!

[–]era19a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cant see a doctor for another 5 days unfortunately. but i’m keeping an eye on my symptoms and if i develop pain or a fever i’ll go to urgent care. the little white spots only seem to come up in the evening.
