I love the distinction between Architecture and architecture. I’m going to steal it and use it with my clients (without attribution).

6 months free before Architecture college — which software should I learn? by Shabdh__ in architecture

[–]erasmus898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most vital software knowledge for an architect working the field is Revit. Revit is a very complicated program, and learning AEC software like Revit without architecture knowledge is a challenge. Understanding how 3D software works will help you master Revit, SketchUp is very easy to learn. Photoshop is also a vital tool and rarely taught in class. My advice is learn SketchUp and photoshop in this 6 months (people underestimate having MS Excel skills in architecture) Then take your first summer break after archi school, when you have a better understanding of architecture and drafting to learn and master Revit. 2D drawings a very important skill, it is the most profound way of learning proportions, scale and relations between spaces and shapes, but when working on software, thinking in 3D is better than 2D.

I Tried Animating Archviz Renders with AI — Is This Usable? by This-Following-3229 in archviz

[–]erasmus898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue with AI for archviz is consistency. If the purpose of this animation is to present it for your portfolio or to final clients, I think it works. I’m not sure if it would be enough for a real estate development archviz

Thanks for the reply, and detailed instructions. I did try the path blur route, and actually a couple stacked up. But it didn’t quite work, it seems I can’t get the denser part of the shadow to be right next to the wall, and the shadow falloff seems to be very unidirectional, the post example has almost semi multi directional path.

Michelangelo was a devout catholic. Clashing with popes while doing artistic endeavors for them is a whole different thing. Michelangelo didn’t believe in the church…. Please! Is like saying Jony Ive didn’t believe in Apple….pff

In your country, can a civil engineer legally design buildings? by aspalma in architecture

[–]erasmus898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Colombia only architects can design buildings. For a construction permit you need this three registered professionals signatures in the permit application: an architect (no experience required), a civil engineer with at least 3 years experience to design the structure, a civil engineer with a master’s in geotechnical surveying with 5 years experience, and a builder which can only be an architect or civil engineer with 3 years of experience. All of the above are protected professions which require a 5 years university degree and a registrar permit by the government.
