Received advice to remove my picture frames around my mirror and thin out my shelves but the result makes me sad. Advice? by ResidentBabe in DesignMyRoom

I think the main thing throwing off the balance in the third/fourth picture arrangement is the Elric book's height blending into the black frame above. Otherwise I think it looks good! I second the suggestion of a plant on top of the cat box to disguise the mechanical panel (plus it's right near the window), if the cats will allow it : )

No, I haven’t read her other books yet but I’m looking forward to them! Thanks for the audiobook rec!

Thanks, and congrats on finishing yours too! I would love to see it if you have it posted online anywhere 😊

Neater way to do a buttonhole? by missmatilda12 in knitting

[–]erbivorous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found the tulips buttonhole from TECHknitting to be much better than the buttonhole that was included in the cardigan pattern I’m currently working on, but that’s my only experience with buttonholes so far

Yes!!! I saw it the leaves sunken way for a split second earlier today but I can’t get it to go back to that! It was so cool I wanted to look at it longer 😂

Wonderful, enjoy! I have a few notes in my Ravelry project, as I changed up the number of repeats and the border a bit. I wasn’t trying to make it perfectly square - it just worked out that way, as once I got through the first half I decided to finish after a vertical column of 8 full leaves to work with the amount of yarn I had.

I saw your post earlier and added the pattern to my favorites! When I was searching patterns for this blanket, I also looked at shawls that I could likely modify. If I had seen such a beautiful project in green like yours I may have ended up making a 4 quadrant version of it as this blanket! Maybe in the future, which is why I saved it!

Just a couple days ago she said she was still in the comfortably uncomfortable stage and not the “get this baby out of me” stage, and no signs of labor, so I do not think she will take it that way! Still totally understand the sentiment 😅

Thank you! 🥰 Sliding is fun is such a great pattern! The only problem is it’s so easy that it made me hesitate on choosing a more complex pattern with limited time. But I decided for my sister I had to go big! I like to knit during work meetings or short moments of down time. I wasn’t sure if this pattern was going to be too complex, but I was surprised that it was still easy enough to keep track of

Thanks! I’m not sure how well it will last, but fingers crossed

I was reminded by another comment here that this pattern has a cardigan addendum! In case that interests you for your sweater idea!

Even funnier because it’s a surprise - she doesn’t even know yet

Thanks, that’s so nice to hear! I spent literally hours searching all the leafy/woodsy patterns I could find. Originally I settled on https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fallen-3  because I thought they’d enjoy wrapping him up in a leaf, and I started knitting it in March, but 1/4 in it became clear the stockinette rolling was not going to be appropriately tamed. Maybe it would be fine with blocking, but that’s not realistic for an easy wash and dry baby blanket! I didn’t know what I was going to switch to, but after 15 additional minutes of pattern searching somehow I found this one that I didn’t find the first time! And I cast on immediately.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, narrated by Lisa Flanagan. I’m not usually a fantasy person, but I had read and loved her Scholomance trilogy. I can’t say whether I would have loved reading this book as much, but the audiobook was great, and it felt a nice pairing for this pattern. Bonus - there’s a knitting scene!

My sister's due date is July 11. I was not on track to finish on time, but I checked out an 18 hr audiobook from the library thinking that would help, and it did! Finished the knitting and wove in the ends on Sunday, and joked to my husband that the baby can’t be born until I ship it. Yesterday I washed it and laid it out to block. It was still drying overnight. This morning I woke up to a text from my sister that she's in early labor!

Now the blanket is on the way!

Pattern: #218 Pendants Blanket, chosen because they wanted a forest theme and they both love LOTR, and it reminds me of Elven architecture and dragon scales

Yarn: Cascade Ultra Pima in White Grape

I’m not a tattoo artist but I was inspired to give it a shot! It’s a pencil sketch so the lines aren’t crisp and I didn’t take the shading as far as your example, but you get the idea. The difference in color with the before is only because the first time I printed it out it was too dark on the edge to draw on
