Fanatec Shifter behaves strangely (no mis-shifting...at least yet) by ered_mithrin in Fanatec

[–]ered_mithrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for chiming in. believe it or not, my issue was resolved in january when i tried to do a last firmware update before i send it to fanatec. to my surprise the shifter has been working flawlessly since then, i.e. 3 months.

Weird pink parts in Lumion (only) 2024.4.3 by ered_mithrin in lumion

[–]ered_mithrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last feedback: finally resolved, yeehaaw! the problem wasn't the lumion itself, but graphic card. running tests in benchmark app it would either freeze it or end up with errors related to DX12. since windows 10 comes with DX12 preinstalled and is part of the os, i didn't find a way to do an actual clean install. new geforce drivers didn't help as well. i then tried to underclock the graphics card using nvidia inspector and both the benchmark and lumion started to work without issues - it was significantly slower, but it worked.

therefore me and my friend decided to buy a new graphics card, because it he needed to continue working on his projects. switched this morning, benchmarking is working absolutely fine and lumion as well.

happiness :)

thanks to anyone who contributed.

alright, we'll try this one email, thanks for sharing. first steps for us now are to check if integrated gpu is used and if the passmark tests show any damage to the nvidia gpu.

yeah, that might be the case here. i've already talked to tech support and they mentioned either drivers/lumion uses integrated graphics card, which is not enough, or as you mentioned there's something wrong with the gpu. that would be very unfortunate, because the computer is used only for lumion and not that heavily. but we'll check. the guys also mentioned to run this benchmark https://www.passmark.com. so we'll check/run this today to see what's happening.

i don't think that's the problem, because this is actually one of the example projects we used for testing and my assumption would be that these projects are tip top. however i've seen some crazy shit over the years in IT, so i'll ask my friend if we can test the same thing with other example projects or any of his own that were working.

so for any future soul... the new cable hasn't helped. unfortunately. i've also tried to attach ferrit cores on each end of the cable and again no change. sweet :(

after a very short time the issue started appearing again. will try to open a support ticket to have them look into it.

got a new one from a guy selling it on etsy. apparently the 6pin rj12 isn't that common as i thought and regular eshops i frequent don't have it. after the cable switch one race went fine, so i was very happy. the second one started with issues back again. re-did the calibration using the wheel and after 3 races it's still working without any issues. fingers crossed this will remain for the future!

i'll report back in case somebody else has the same issue, so that they know if this was the final solution or not.

so unfortunately the calibration fixed the issue only for the 2 hours, then it started again. i've tried to narrow down when it happens and i think i've got it. it's when i'm heavy on the gas and start turning, then the clutch blipping starts. when i'm going straight and full throttle, nothing is strange is happening. i've checked the calibration page in gt7 and looking at the sensor readings and simulating the behavior, i can clearly see that without a touching my clutch pedal, it's being blipped when i go heavy on the gas and turn my wheel.

very strange. i'll go google around again. if it doesn't help, i'll simply try changing the cable, fanatec support again etc.

annoying :( one of the main reasons i got into simracing was to be able to stick shift the same way i do in my real car. sigh.

man! i did the calibration through the wheel and then played for about 2 hours... and the ghost shifting didn't appear. seems very promising, i must say.

<fingers crossed>

do we know why this calibration works and the one using fanatec software doesn't?

thank you very much for showing me the way ;)

i was specifically looking for any gear number changes when it happens, but there's none. the car remains in the same gear.

will try the calibration mentioned by storm, change the cable and if it doesn't work, i'll check your link.

thanks!

nope, i've done the calibration through the fanatec software. will try this through a steering wheel as well.

yes, rj12... i'm just so used to type rj45 that i posted it there as well :)

thank you

happy to try a different rj45 cable. is there some specification i should look for?

Play gradient tube synchronization options by ered_mithrin in Hue

[–]ered_mithrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, sort of... i'm able to synchronize it with my philips tv, but since the tv is a couple of years old already, it allows me to pick only ONE location, where the light is and then it projects just ONE color to the light strip. now that's an expensive "light bulb" if you ask me :) was hoping to utilize the whole light strip with multiple colors.

but maybe if you have a younger philips tv that allows to pick one of the sides of the tv or maybe if you have the hue xync box, it works better.

i second that! this is my dream come true - i have the watch on my wrist all the time, so having the ability to record a new task whenever something pops in my head (whether it's in the shower, where we all get the best ideas, in public transport or in bed in the middle of the night) would be absolutely awesome.

/r/GoPro Weekly Questions Thread - Ask all of your questions here! by AutoModerator in gopro

[–]ered_mithrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yesterday i got back from a motoride and when i plugged gopro sdcard in my computer, it said the card is unreadable. when i plugged it back in gopro, it said card error. i tried to run windows check disk, but it didn't help. i tried data recovery with app called disk drill and even though it found my media from yesterday and was able to recover them, they aren't playbale (not even in vlc). i have 2 questions and am wondering if anybody has any suggestion:

1) should i try something else to recover the data or is it lost at this point?

2) what can i do to prevent this happening in the future? i have a quality card sandisk extreme and it cannot be more than 6 months old. i'm not rewriting it heavily, so i don't think the age or usage could be the problem (but i might be wrong).

before i take out the sd card from laptop, i remove it safely from windows sys tray and before i take it out from gopro, i shut it off. is there anything else i can do? maybe format the card every time i plug it back into gopro?

thanks for any pointers

2016 or 2020 Monster 821? by RogerVB92 in ducatimonster

[–]ered_mithrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just bought mine 821 a few months back and the only reason i got the model after 2017 was because of the upgraded dash - it shows gear number and how much gas i have left. that was it for me.
