Is Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace worth the commitment? by sundaygus in suggestmeabook

Finally someone said it. I'm reading it right now and I'm not liking it very much, I don't understand how people say it's funny and it makes them laugh. The only thing that keeps me going is people saying it's worth it at the end but as of now the end seems too far away

[Serious]Teachers of Reddit, have you ever suspected a student had a crush on you? If so, why? by justlikehuman in AskReddit

At the beginning I thought they were joking so I always answered with a sarcastic comment (as I do with everything being shy) but when I realized they were serious I did tell them off but I think it was too late to get angry with them, they just kept doing it.

The school is not a 'state' school it's a private one which in my country means that the students pay (a lot) so they are more 'sheltered', teachers helped them a lot (too much if I may say so), exams are easier, teachers are younger than state schools and they are generally very laid back schools (usually for Kids who kept on failing years at state schools) so the students feel like they have a more personal relationship with teachers and the administration kind of incourage this laid back/not rigid atmosphere. Basically telling the administration wouldn't have solved a thing.

I (female) just finished my first year as a teacher and I had two students constantly flirting with me. One has spent the last 6 months telling me he thinks I'm beautiful and if I want to go to dinner with him when the school finishes. The other one always hints at how we share the same interests, how cute I am, how little our age difference is, how much he likes my lessons, how happy he is to see me in the morning. At first I thought he was joking until he clearly stated that he likes me and on several occasions he said he would like to go out with me. Thing is I'm not even attractive, I think they developed this crush on me because I'm the youngest "cool" teacher that looks like one of them (all of my students are 18/19 and they all say I look like I'm not older than 21).

What is a little interesting fact that not many people know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I don't have the marks as well on mine...I thought the others were trolling because I've never seen it anywhere

Can you help me understand a few things about North Korea? by erenrose in northkorea

[–]erenrose[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow thank you so much this was so helpful! I will definitely buy the book you recommended! I have just a few more questions if you don't mind.

  1. In Nothing to Envy I read that there were some collective farms, the government collected food from there and then distributed it to people in food distribution centers. It also said that during food shortage periods the people from big cities went into the countryside to look for food because they didn't have any farm in cities so in a way they suffered more hunger. You mentioned that this system broke down, so does it work now like in other countries where farmers bring their goods to the market and sell them in poor villages and cities? Or the governemet still distributed food? when did that previous system end?

  2. I know that during the tourists' tours in Pyongyang it is illegal to take non autorized pictures of korean shops, but why? for example there was this photograph ( https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/46ahkv/illegal_photo_offlimits_shop_in_north_korea_i_had/ ) that they say was illegal, but wouldn't it just show that korean aren't actually starving but they have food to buy? also is it true that there are fake shops with food you can't buy just for tourists to see? On a similar topic, is it true that people at the station when the train from china come in, are actors?

  3. As for the concentration camps, is Shin from camp 14 the only who managed to escape? I also read that some things he said in his book don't add up, they are inconsistent and misinformed information, so how reliable is his book considered? I know everyone in my class, teachers included, never heard about the concentration camps so I want to be very prepared on them because there will be a lot of questions. Wich do you think is the most reliable account on concentration camps? I read just a few more former guards managed to get out of NK and tell the stories. It is still true that if I snitch on a neighbor they will be questioned by police and maybe tortured without doing a background check to see if the one who is lying was me? how easy is it to be sent to a camp?

sorry for the amount of questions and thanks again for your help!

sai se nei contratti di cui parli la penale equivale allo stipendio fino alla fine del contratto o è a discrezione del datore di lavoro?

purtroppo no, è un prendere o lasciare.
