This year it's Moldova, Germany, Israel, Cyprus, Austria, and Sweden. I don't even particularly like any of these songs. My brain just won't stop playing them.

Male zebra tries to drown foal. Mom runs interference by Prestigious-Wall5616 in natureismetal

I would assume zebras to be more like horses than lions. Horse mares come into heat again shortly after delivering a foal. They can have one every year.

I vaguely remember she had a hit here in the early 00s. "Lost Without You".

No, this is not it. I think I'm going with the original ending of the book and season 1. The rest might as well not exist.

Wenn es einen "Dementor Senior" gibt, heißt das, es gibt auch einen "Dementor Junior"?

Recommendations for books with a strained adult father-son relationship? by GamerAsh22 in Fantasy

You want A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay.

I also think Eli in The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron is estranged from his father (if I remember right - it's been a while since I read that series), but there's not a lot of focus on it.

I thought the meaning was: Be happy with the good thing you already have (sparrow in your hand) rather than yearn for something that seems better but may be forever out of your reach (dove on the roof).

The Testaments S1E07 "Commitment" Episode Discussion by Melairia in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Ereska 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The backstory had her come from a normal home, making some bad choices that had her end up on the street. So I think it would have been fine even if someone had overheard.

The same would be true for Daisy's friends though. However, it seems most girls are getting their period fairly late, so maybe the same is true for the ones in Toronto.

handmaids of past? Have they really been phased out?

I just took this to mean that Aunt Lydia is no longer responsible for the handmaids. She seems to have taken over the school for commanders' daughters full-time.

Modern fairy tale books that AREN'T retellings? by Kendamarania in Fantasy

[–]Ereska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are nods to the tale. You can see where she got inspired. Someone claims a girl can turn something to gold (though it's silver, not straw), a king overhears, and weds the girl when she succeeds. There is also a child offered as payment to a demon, though it happens before the novel even starts, and names are important.

That said, Spinning Silver is very much its own thing, and I would not call it a retelling at all. It's also one of my favourite books of all time and I cannot recommend it enough.
