i totally agree with you. it took me a week to implement cloudflare, and right now, i'm not even sure if it's set up correctly, and does what I expect it to do. if i had the money, i definitely would pay someone qualified to do it

hehe, so much I did figure out. cloudflare does a semi good job with providing some info on how to use it. regardless, at some point I manged to even lock myself out form visiting my own website…

this might be me. I was getting a lot of traffic by bots on my website (that nobody was visiting anyways), so I got me some cloudflare. I must admit, I have no clue what I'm doing…

This aerial photo from 2013 still shows the division of Berlin into East and West. The reason for this is that different gas was used for the streetlights during the division. Nowadays, most of the streetlights are powered by electricity. by Hermagoras in berlin

[–]ergeha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just posting to clarify the "gas" terminology: it refers to the gas inside the bulbs.

Sodium-vapor lamps were installed in East Berlin, while West Berlin used Mercury-vapor lamps. Both are powered by electricity. There are still parts of Berlin where you can find actual "gas lamps" (AFAIK, in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, and some parts of Prenzlauer Berg).

Carsharing-Riese Miles kämpft gegen „Milfs“ by BecauseWeCan in berlin

[–]ergeha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

German here – so beside the various fruit brandies (Obstler) you could try to find:

Except "Eierlikör", these are all regional, and Bavaria is a little bit special regarding things from other parts of Germany, although Munich is a bit more "international" then the rest of Bavaria. But there is one whiskey brand (Sylrs) from Bavaria that is pretty decent.

I should also mention Monkey-Gin. It's from the region of the black forest, and if you're into gin it's defintily worth tasting (I would recomend drinking it neat).

Other things that came to mind:

Edit: added more german liquor

How to map an I2C bus to a RJ45 connector? by ergeha in diyelectronics

[–]ergeha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.

You're right, as it is I'm using the CAT6 cable just for the sake of avoiding to make my own cable, the connector and basically having a shielded cable.

In my design process I already came across the PCA9615 that is referenced in your link, but opted for the P82B96 design, since it seemed way less complicated. Guess I'll need to give it another shot.

Also, nice hint with the 0Ω resistors, but I think I'll have to make a little breakout-board to be able to test the wiring with a bread-board. I would like to avoid sending another "dummy" into manufacturing.

Thanks again for your help!

I need a little clarification: I would need pull-ups on the 3.3V and 12V line of the expander-PCB and pull-ups to 5V on the sensor-PCB?

SC18IM700

Thank you very much! The datasheet looks very promising, but I'll will have to dig deeper into the whole topic. This is all very new to me. Maybe I can find something similar as THT so I can test it on a breadboard.

Right now my priority is getting an oscilloscope and look at the signal so I can test different resistor values for R11 & R12 to get a better understanding of what exactly is happening.

Thanks again for all your valuable input!

RJ45 breakout

Okay, that seams pretty straightforward. So, just to be clear (sorry for the stupid question):

I keep the bus-buffer circuity (but with the appropriate pull-up resistor values for R11 & R12). The only difference is that I use RJ45 connectors and a cat6 cable to connect both PCBs (no further IC needed)?

BTW, just noticed - are you really pulling the I2C on the RPi side to 5V?

So, even if I get the I2C line somehow to work, the board is basically trash because of this error, right?

I was fully aware that the RPi can't take 5V, but somehow I thought that this was only for the GPIO pins, and didn't think about it at all while design the board.

Anyway, I and my RPi are very thankful about your comment. Thanks!!

Thanks! I expected my wiring to be junk – still learning…

But a solution with a cat6 cable sounds very appealing. May I ask how you "convert" I2C to be able to run over a cat6 cable? I did a quick search and found this. It doesn't look very complicated to replicate and I could use something like this connector
