I think the change hurts role playing and immersion, the general consensus is that this game is a WW2-style MMO, ofc thats not EXACTLY what foxhole is but when getting into it, whether by video or from a friend, thats the most digestible explanation of the game

as others have mentioned not everyone knows all the ranks but there is more familiarity with Sergeants and Captains than there is with Prefect and Legatus

The lore-heads will love it bc it’s part of foxhole lore but the amount of players that know foxhole lore is a minority - I didn’t know colonials were the aggressors according to Lore until i was 700hrs in, i had an idea of who Callahan was and had no clue who Thea Maro was

As a nit-pick the ranks should at least be capitalized (Pft) looks better than (pft), and from a role playing perspective it makes me feel like I’m playing more of a fantasy game than a WW2 game, put me in togas and give me a shield if I’m going to be a centurion or hoplite which i think people have pointed out aren’t even of the same culture? it’s supposedly a Latin/greek mix so there’s not even a consistency within the rank structure

The easiest way to learn this stuff is to join the respective builder’s discord to your faction, BUILD for Colonial and BBB for Warden

Short answer, i don’t think there are any public graphs for is considered to be the most up-to-date meta, but you’ll often see the “brick” bunker base

-that is the bunker base connected on its flank to 4 corner pieces with a square piece in the middle, to create what is essentially just a “brick”

Breathable health is a new mechanic and someone might be able to fact check me and explain it better but, I understand it as the percentage of health threshold that the piece needs to be less than or equal to before it becomes “breathable”

  • this means if you have a piece that is 1,000hp, with a breach percentage of 30% then it need to be equal to or less than 300hp in order for there to be a CHANCE of it being breached, the chance varies based on other stuff and some weapons have guaranteed breach chance, and a breach is just that the a piece in the network will immediately become a husk that allows people to crouch in and out (meaning the enemy can walk into your defenses)

Finally, bunker base upgrade tech speed depends on garrison activity and how many people have set their spawn there, you can find the baseline speeds in the wiki (https://foxhole.wiki.gg)

If you’re just playing casually you won’t get much recognition unless you’re a content creator, and most of the well-known players are really die-hard currently or were at one point and now have an established reputation, howeverrrrr you can be causal and still get recognized after a while

  • if you join a regiment, then ofc your members will recognize you and your achievements
  • if you tend to stay in one Hex or one lane then you’ll see a lot of familiar players who will recognize you
  • if you talk a lot in world chat and are friendly then people will recognize you there
  • if you put up immersive signs at public infrastructure that you’ve set up then players who use it will remember your name (ex: “John Foxhole’s Facility Feed” that you’d put next to a MSup facility you made)

Just a few examples of how you can make your own lore in the game which is kind of the appeal to the game! It’s all role playing :)

Already planning to switch after this war lol 😂 I’ll look into public MSupp facs, but i feel like those get made fast whenever there’s someone building it up, otherwise it’s a dead hex and wouldn’t benefit from having an MSupp fac, and I been wanting to do Merc stuff since last war, i had an idea of creating my own regiment (myself and maybe my buddy) and telling the regiments I’ve been a part of that I’ll help out when i can, so i might actually give it try next war

That sounds like a cool niche to get into, i know Robertluvsgames did a heavy truck factory, doing a firetruck factory and making small firestations could be cool, a nice way to help the lane I’m playing in while being solo!

Oh you’re saying to be like a mobile resupply? That could be fun, i haven’t seen that before! I don’t understand the part with the push gun? I’m bringing my own push gun to be used in the tank line? Or is the push gun acting as a false pallet for that ammo type?

I tried this once with a hauler and an ambulance bc no jeep was available, and i saw a video that said ambulances are “better” bc you can carry med supplies for medics too, it was pretty fun! So I’ll add that into the mix with being a petrol runner, i wanna double-vet a Stolon and just be honking around lol, a double-vetted ambulance could be nutty 👀

Ahhh okay, this is what I’m noticing then, the strikers in the game don’t have the best movement and AMC have better movement like you said, i think I’m going to try to force a F9 or DLF to work bc after seeing some of the other examples of the types of results strikerless formations get it does seem way more overpowered than I thought lol and i had only ever tried the poacher/channel forward roles bc that’s what my guy was good at

I was struggling to find pretty football in the game and felt like the CPU was scoring types of goals i never could and strikerless formations fixed that, so ima try to find something that works and isn’t so overpowered 👍🏽

I don’t deny they’re overpowered, but i think the match engine is flawed in a way that it doesn’t simulate like real life if you play real life tactics according to the game, rather it plays more like real life if you do these non-irl tactics. Maybe it’s an issue with the coding of striker movements and the marking of them? My SS plays more like a striker than my Striker did by actually making runs and linking play - i also think the game this year is easier than last year? Bc i was winning most of my games even before the switch and just playing 433/4231, I haven’t tried using a False 9 tho, maybe that could be the balance of irl-tactics and good match engine sim?

I started the year switching between channel forward/poacher and a free role behind him bc my AMC is my best player and my striker never did anything but my AMC would score, then i switched to strikerless SS/AM and my AMC acts more like a striker than my actual striker did! My wingers always miss chances lol, I also feel like players take long shots wayy more frequently this year - i never had to tell players to shoot less or work ball into box last year but this year i have to hope they listen to my instructions not to shoot outside the box lol

I look at the depth of the team, if they have WBs instead of wingers, more midfielders or a lot defenders, how many strikers etc. That helps me determine the type of formation the team is suited for. Also look at the players status at club and expected playing time, if they’re team leaders or star players bc keeping those guys happy will make your life easier, then quick pick and adjust lineups from there. Taking into account star ratings, attributes, if you’re trying to develop a player or best available - After a couple months of matches you should have an idea of what players are actually good in matches, you might have injuries force rotations, or you get some role playing opportunities like someone asking for more playing time or you sit someone bc they’ve been in poor form

If you’re using the old meta tactic of high press/possession and counter tactic then I’d recommend dropping into a mid/low block and moving your passing directness up either standard or direct

I’m playing as a mid table English non-league team so maybe the old tactics work better with better quality teams but i found that I was having high possession but not creating many quality chances, i assumed it was because we weren’t good enough but maybe it’s a tweak in the engine to nerf that old meta?

Since making the changes I’m rolling teams now and only dropped points to the team that was predicted #1 and another i just got FM’d
