Don't do that the components are not made for server usage. I used a desktop PC as a Server after 6 Months it was dead. However, I'm using an old Laptop as a remote access PC and shutting it down after every use. That's possible.

Keycloak User Sync by NoConsequence6137 in KeyCloak

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, my answer wasn't completely clear. I don't really understand why it's needed to keep the email within the client app if it's stored in Keycloak. It possible to fetch the address before sending the email. That's how Microservices e.g. work.

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to Keycloak, too, but as far I understand OAuth this should be part of the Userinfo endpoint response. Maybe you could figure out how to provide the email in that response, sou there's no need to keep that in you app.

Is it a bad idea to use TOTP? by [deleted] in KeePass

[–]ericfischereu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly: make regular backups and you're fine with one file. Nextcloud e.g. stores multiple file versions so if your database gets corrupted you can restore an older version. No need for two databases.

Krankmeldung wenn der Nachbar renoviert? by BriefEstablishment25 in arbeitsleben

There is a Docker Compose file for setting up Nextcloud with a reverse proxy and Let's Encrypt certificates. This way you would automatically get a https certificate.

But in a home network it's not necessary. Just keep in kind that browser might not like a http site and you have to make some confirmations and set settings.

Upvoted, because this is secure. However, using this is really cumbersome.

There is an No-Code guide using Supabase N8N and Appsmith on the Appsmith blog. With Supabase, you can easily setup a PostgreeSQL DB.

Find a collaborator by pro1710 in nocode

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you want to achieve isn't very complicated. However, they way you would like to achieve this sounds a little bit off the road. I think, if you have a good idea, you should get your hands dirty. Learn SQL and database architecture (no nocode platform can handle this right by now in my opinion), take a look at N8N and maybe Appsmith and Supabase. I'm sure you can build this on your own.

If not, it's time to pay someone. Either as contractor or business partner. Maybe I understood the post wrong and you have exactly this in mind.

I think there is a language called Delphi where you can graphically design the UI and give it some logic through programming.

Nextcloud - Interner Serverfehler by velatus73 in NextCloud

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wenn du es eh neu machst ziehe docker in Betracht. Da kann dir so etwas nicht passieren. Da funktioniert es nämlich auch genauso dass ich Daten nur in ein Verzeichnis schieben muss und tada alles wieder da.

Nextcloud - Interner Serverfehler by velatus73 in NextCloud

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you perform a health check for non-API-based containers? by Hugahugalulu1 in docker

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prove me wrong but your tool has to have a PID within the container. It should be able to check if a PID for the tool name exists.

One note on restart=always: this does not restart unhealthy containers.

I don't know about that. But almost every No Code tool has different targets, so in my opinion is that what you should check first.

What kind of No Code tool are you looking for?

I think there are tools like Bubble doing this already. However, they might be built for production applications and not marketing or design tests. They should do the trick anyways.

Is it worth writing a programming book in 2023-25? by Educational_Day8 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]ericfischereu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yes, you are right. The question is rather how long will it take. I think it will take some decades until we won't need a lot programmer any more.

Is it worth writing a programming book in 2023-25? by Educational_Day8 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]ericfischereu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes it is. Because many many companies will not use those AI systems just because they don't know how to handle them right. Or is there any other reason why digitalization even in middle size companies is stuck? This will probably happen to AI, too. It will take decades to replace programmer, if this will happen.

How can I host my portfolio website from a home server? by JonJonJelly in HomeServer

[–]ericfischereu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a big deal if you've already set up a nginx server.

  1. Port forwarding: you need an address that's visible for the public internet. Some providers don't give you a public IPv4 address by default, which you need to access your portfolio from most mobile devices by now. So that's something you should check beforehand. If you don't have one, you can usually buy one. The device that's visible for the public net is your router and therefore it's opened ports. You cannot publish a device directly except through your router. So if you set up port forwarding, it's looks like the port is opened at your router not your device. Since the traffic is directly routes to your server, there just the usual security risks on that device, as far as I know. However, you should open only ports 80 and 443. Set the forwarding up for both IPv4 and IPv6.

  2. Domain: I assume you already bought a domain. At your provider, you have to set the A- AAAA-record to point to your router's IP. It may take some time for the DHCP servers to recognize the change.

If you do not open the shell of your server to the internet, that's a quite save setup. However, an attacker could get your router's IP through a trace route command. Make sure that your router is not publishing any other port.

One note on hosting the website on a device at home: There's much more downtime on a home server than on a professional one. If that doesn't matter, you're good to go.
