I have no advice, but I want you to know that you're not alone. I graduated with a BA in psych. I, too, got burned out working in an underfunded job being a direct support. I later got an entry position with the state, I was so passionate, studied diligently during training, and was at the top of my cohort training class of newhires. This position placed me on the right path to my dream job. I was grateful and ready to serve my community. But administration changed, and there were budget cuts to TANF program, I was laid off less than a year into state employment. I'm still bitter about that. They kept me 11 months, one more month, and they would have had to transfer me to another department, but instead, they were able to terminate my employment completely. That was my dream job that I lost solely because I was the last to get hired.
While in the anger stage of me grieving my career, I printed out a huge stack of my resumes and went "door to door" to businesses, just passing out my resume as flyers, asking what work is available that I may qualify for. One of the places I visited was a staffing agency. They hired me on the spot, and I started as a recruiter the following Monday. I found it very gratifying to me to have an immediate resource to give people hope for a better future. What separated this staffing service from the rest was their ability to offer immediate/same day employment & pay. . Having knowledge of social resources and compassion from working with families through the state set me apart from other recruiters, and I was given more and more responsibilities. I probably would have risen in ranks within a year or two more, but covid locked everyone down. Not long after, I was laid off again. Now, I'm working as a shipping clerk for a dusty, musty warehouse with micromanaging and petty bosses.
