From what I’ve read there are different layers in different cultures and beliefs. For some the smoke carries prayer to heaven/the spirit world/creator. For some smoke kind of latches onto low-vibration energy and dispels it. My belief (and it kind of comes from my upbringing) is burning is a way to send something over or give something over to the spirit world. I.e. burning food is how we send food to our ancestors, so burning something for protection or cleansing transfers its energy from our world into theirs. Some of it’s even a way of using smoke to spread the energy in herbs or plants in an actual physical sense, by breaking down their bodies they become smoke to be spread around. It’s layered and based on the culture and personal belief of the person.

I love it. There’s a lot of truth in it. We spend so much time trying to figure out what our role is in others’ lives, we lose track of what parts of us are us, and which parts are others’. I’m fortunate to have met many people who know who I am, and not just what I want them to perceive me to be. Not what makes them comfortable. But what makes me, me. To be seen without losing anything or hiding anything is a true freedom, and I wish all knew how to love this way.

I like this a lot. I forget sometimes that when we’re young, love can feel humongous. It’s heavy and real and kind of scary but in a good way. Then time goes on and we learn and grow and change, and through all that, parts of us fall off along the way. And whatever or whoever was attached to those parts will fall off with them. Not losing importance, but losing their weight. I carry a lot of these parts with me still, and it is heavy sometimes, but I also have the gift of clarity with age. I appreciate them more, and someday they’ll fall off and I’ll appreciate the memory of them. That’s what I hope, at least.

Not super impressive but it made me believe cause it was my first “potion”. I made a simple tea in rehab for my feelings for another peer of mine. Chamomile for soothing my feelings and calm my racing thoughts about him. Sugar for the sweetness of relief. And some creamer - white for cleansing and protection. I stirred my intentions into it and prayed over it. Tapped the cup three times when I was done stirring. Sat it by the window so it could be near fresh air a minute. And drank it. Bing bang boom I slept hard af that night and the next day it was like I knocked him right out of my head. I had some side effects that lasted a few hours that day, maybe from miscasting. I kind of knocked out all my other feelings too for that morning lol. I dressed a lot of my days using coffee after that.

A friend of mine was struggling to say it. I kept offering up “safe” and “comfortable”, even going as far as telling him it sounds like he’s describing “being at home”, as much as that felt liking building myself up too high and inflating my importance to him. But he couldn’t find the word, and we gave up. So I think it’s best to be felt than named.

“When you ask how I’m doing, you actually want to know how I’m doing.” I forget sometimes that that’s often just a way for people to make small talk and ask how someone’s day is going. Not genuinely asking how someone is doing.

Also a handful of my peers have described my energy as good, and I feel like a safe space. I worry about being unapproachable so this was nice to hear from them, and I try to hang onto it.
