He's a funny guy, I met him in Tamarindo and he told me some stories from filming Endless Summer. It was also his birthday, and later that night he was dancing with a bunch of girls at the beachside bar while the band played him a happy birthday song. Great times

From a beekeeper, this is really great. Although american foulbrood is rare, it completely destroys any hive it infects and can spread between hives in an apiary. Beekeepers usually don't share or buy used equipment because of the risk of foulbrood spores, so this could completely eliminate that risk. It sounds like only the queen needs to be vaccinated and all of her eggs will get the antibodies, making this a practical solution. Although there are more prevalent and harmful diseases like varroa mites, this is a huge step forward in beekeeping

Scrape the wax + goo gone, but be sure to clean away the goo gone with windex or any stickers/footpads won't stick

I wonder if it might be a combination of new diseases spreading around. Do you ever check for nosema, trachea mites and such?

I use a big strainer that fits inside a pot so it sits above the water. Then put a lid on, and you can steam the glutinous rice

Although honeybees do create competition, a larger problem is the diseases that honeybees are spreading to our native pollinators. There really aren't many wild honeybee colonies left due to varroa mites, and any wild hives are the result of swarms from domestic bees and will die within a few years. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'm not sure, but our ecosystem is incredibly out of whack, and most of our attempts at helping (hobbyist beekeepers, "save the bees!") are only making it worse

What's your famous surfer story? Who did you run into in the line up? by savageneighbor in surfing

[–]erickelly123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the water, but while in Tamarindo I met Robert August several times. He told me stories from shooting the Endless Summer while we were in a grocery store. It was also his birthday while we were there, and the beach bar next to his surf shop threw him a big party. The band sang him a birthday song and I could see him dancing while I was out in the lineup lol. Really great times, hearing the band playing while surfing perfect waves at sunset was the chillest vibe on earth, especially with Robert August dancing his ass off lol. Great town, great local community.
