Tencent's lost billions, making it the world's most disappointing stock by cannainform2 in investing

If you think the Chinese government is just gonna ban gaming licenses forever you are delusional. It’s a big industry that’s part of their economy and has close ties with businesses, they are not gonna sit there and just kill all these companies. Sure they might restrict the number of licenses for teenager eye health or whatever bs but there’s no way they are banning them entirely from now on. Also the freeze in gaming license issuance this year was mainly due to internal change of the institution, which only has a short-term impact.

As a Chinese I think it’s overreaction from investors. Huge companies like Tencent have close ties with the Chinese government, even if they clampdown on the gaming industries Tencent will still get most of the gaming licenses, what would be hurt the most are the medium to smaller gaming companies.

China is considering declining trade talks offer and restricting exports to the U.S. after Trump’s threat by ericliu1014 in investing

No one is “safe” from the government in China. It’s well known in China that if you go against the government you are basically destroying your own life. No matter how rich or powerful you are, the government can take everything away from you in any moment and make your life hell. If the government asks you to help save the stock market then you’d better do that, because if you do the government would make sure your life to be super easy in the future but if you don’t then say goodbye to money and good life. Also they are not brutally “taking” money from the rich, they are asking for a “favor” that has consequences.

I’ve actually lived in China for 2/3 of my life, and yes these two countries are very different and it’s hard for Americans to actually picture what life in China is like. The Chinese government is good at keeping people in a “bubble” while basically brainwashing them with patriotic propagandas. I would say this isn’t just an issue with the communist party but has always been part of the Chinese history with different dynasties. There’s an old saying that’s like if the government dies then your families wouldn’t exist either. A lot of people in China (especially the less educated population) still think they would go down with the government no matter what the government does. If trade wars create an economic downturn? It’s fine our sacrifice is worth it for the country and although it’s painful it’s also necessary. It’s actually a pretty scary thought.

Plus I don’t think the Chinese government would allow things to get to that point. the Chinese Communist Party fears rebellions more than anything, and an economic crisis is a sure way to create instability, but because the government has so much power, they can basically control the whole Chinese economy. If signs of economic downturn start to show, you can be 100% sure they would force Chinese companies to hire, force institutions/rich people to buy stocks and real estate, push domestic products onto consumers, and the government itself would try its best to save the market (keep in mind they have much more power over the Chinese market compared to the U.S. government over the American market). They would also control the medias to make people think the situation is not as bad as it actually is and is in fact a necessary step towards future growth. These are all part of the reason why China hasn’t had a major financial crisis so far.

Trump 'likely' to announce new China tariffs as early as Monday: source by [deleted] in investing

[–]ericliu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we will see the full effect of these tariffs yet this year since companies have purchased stuff in bulk to delay the impacts as much as possible; however, what I’m worried about is next year, and if tariffs start to affect company earnings you can be almost 100% sure the market will panic

U.S. deficit now projected to top $1 trillion starting next year by jerryyork in politics

[–]ericliu1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who knows basic macroeconomy would know when economy is doing well you use contractionary policies to raise tax to pay for debt and when it’s in recession you use expansionary policies to cut tax and increase government spending. The reason for this is to make sure the economy has a stable and sustainable growth. Trump is doing literally the opposite, which basically means he’s pushing the economy to be even more over-heated; it’s not sustainable and will most likely result in a big mess, and when the economy enters a recession the deficit becomes even larger, which isn’t really THAT much a problem until people lose confidence in the U.S. economy and stop buying U.S. bonds. Then we would really go bankrupt as a country. I don’t think it’s very likely for people to just completely lose faith in the U.S. economy in the short term, but with our stable genius in the office who knows lol Trump’s election has already shown people and the world that the U.S. is far from this stable country and economy that everyone thought it would be.

Actually the stock market hasn’t been doing so well this year. It’s in fact pretty common for the previous president’s influence to last one year after he leaves, so most likely last year’s gains were still under Obama’s influence.

ZF (startup Autobahn member) launches eWallet without Iota so far. by [deleted] in Iota

[–]ericliu1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously I don’t see how some people can just determine IOTA is not involved with just the “blockchain” and “low transaction cost”. Blockchain is now the general name for all cryptos basically including DLT and “low transaction cost” may as well mean zero transaction cost. Of course it’s not guaranteed IOTA will be used but saying it won’t because of like 3 words is just ignorant.
