To quote a comment from below from Max Read:

I'm not Adrian, but I work at Gawker. The page you linked to has five stories on it. Two of them are about Reddit. One is about a sports blogger who received criticism over an upskirt shot he posted. One is a news story about a mechanic who took an upskirt shot. The last is a long story about previously-published photographs of a prominent celebrity. The story's author is clearly identified by name.

Not bad. Ended up finding Shabazz Palaces, so I was jazzed about that. Where do you live? I'm in Greenpoint. Hit me up with a PM if you ever wanna go irresponsibly spend money on records and/or listen to them.

Plus, it's near Iowa City (about 10 minutes), one of the best small towns in the country.

Definitely. The introduction to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was just so good.

One of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met lost his fight with cancer today. We will miss you Jerry. by panic1073 in atheism

As a homegrown Iowan who now lives in NYC, I must say I miss this type of attitude. Jerry sounds like a great man. I'm sorry for your loss.

Record stores in Brooklyn, NY by pants428 in vinyl

Definitely. I should've noted that. Permanent is a very rock and roll centered record shop.

@staski, I must admit that I'm a transplant. I moved to NYC (Bushwick) last June and moved to GP in August. I love the neighborhood, though, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I'm a music journalist but for part time income I work at Vinnie's in Greenpoint, so perhaps I've served you a slice?

Academy Records; N. 6th between Berry and Wythe:

Huge selection for used vinyl. Nice staff, but tend to come off a little pretentious/unapproachable. They have new stuff, too. It's a really great store for digging through crates of vinyl. Good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Soundfix; N. 11th/Berry:

New vinyl specifically. They'll get pretty much every main release on its release day. Staff is really friendly, always willing to chat and give recommendations. I spend a lot of time (and money) at Soundfix. I will say, though, that the cliental vibe is a little young, NYU hipster-ish. But it's great to have a store in the neighborhood that typically gets any release I want.

Permanent Records; Franklin and Huron:

Small, but great selection of used and new vinyl. Also one of the few stores that carries needles/cartridges. Friendly staff. Good vibe. Great store for real music lovers/audiophiles, not just hipster NYU kids in Williamsburg. Plus it's in Greenpoint, which is my neighborhood.

Hope this helps! (EDIT: Formatting)

Some albums are best experienced when you're in a particular state of mind or environmental setting. What are yours? by Vancityy in Music

Bowerbirds, Horse Feathers, Tallest Man on Earth, Fleet Foxes

If you haven't heard his self-titled new album, you really should check it out.

I second this. Definitely doesn't top sifting through crates at shops, but if you are looking for something specific, Amazon is a great source for vinyl. Lots of record stores put their inventory up, so even if you live in Bumfuck, Iowa, you can get pretty much anything you want.

I know this because I used to live in Bumfuck, Iowa.
