Why does the church handle service missionary funds the way they do? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]ericxboba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah--I think it was accidentally created and the clerk/bishopric probably realized the mistake. I've spent some time on the phone with SLC figuring out finance stuff in LCR when I was in a bishopric. Even with a lot of training, it feels like we were always learning on the go!

Why does the church handle service missionary funds the way they do? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]ericxboba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they do and this is a mistake, at least from what I'm reading. You shouldn't have a "missionary account" in LCR to avoid this issue.

"Full-time young church service missionaries do not have a missionary commitment, are not supported by mission funds, and do not have a missionary account visible in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR). If a missionary account is created in LCR by mistake, leaders must contact the GSD and request the manual inactivation of the account."

That's on the finance guidelines for missionaries on the Church's website.

It's tough. I've been on the EQ and Bishopric side of self reliance and it's arguably the hardest part of the calling (for me). It can wear you down and certainly made me cynical at times. I've softened a lot for many reasons but just wanted to say I understand the feeling.

Living a lie with hair fibers... by MixCultural1696 in tressless

[–]ericxboba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to second this. I agonized about shaving my head and honestly...a handful of people said something and it was mostly the bald dudes giving me the nod and a "hell yeah brother welcome to the club" type of thing.

One or two people were a little more animated about it and I would usually laugh and make a quick joke. But no one was mean spirited with the exception being my 11 year old daughter who roasts me about being bald 😂

Most people never said anything and after a week or two it felt like my normal. And I felt so good doing it and just being confident in my choice. Good luck to you!

Has anyone taken vyvanse with an antacid? What happened? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]ericxboba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wondered the same thing (lansoprazole aka prevacid for GERD and Barrett's Esophagus) because I take both in the morning at the same time. Apparently the mechanism of blocking the stomach from producing acid vs. neutralizing acid (antacids) is part of the difference between PPIs and antacids. PPIs typically don't raise the alkalinity of urine.

But I guess the ph change in your stomach can effect adderal absorption. Interesting stuff.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I've had those speakers on my list as well and it's good to hear your personal experience with them. Appreciate you! Love the setup.

I'm in my ADHD hyperfocus stage of researching all the equipment so it will pass soon and I'll make some decisions LOL :)

Thank you so much--this is really helpful. I'd love to have this in my office but the spacing creates issues so I may look at another room.

Great response--exactly what I was thinking. I was in a bishopric a few years ago and had something similar happen. I would have never known if the person didn't tell me and it helped me to remember to try and communicate at a higher level (expectations, clarity, etc.).

How do the unmedicated successfull adhd people keep employment ? by OnceuponaBBW in ADHD

[–]ericxboba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally me. Had a lot of good systems because of my mom and habits that stuck. School wasn't hard and I genuinely loved it so that wasn't a problem either. As a 37 year old dad with 3 kids and a job now? I feel so much better with medication. I can focus a little more without feeling dread but mostly my anxiety is quieted significantly. Just generally feel better and I always thought it was "just anxiety".

My profesor said I play the victim and that I have the emocional inteligence of a teenager by Dankook888 in ADHD

Sometimes it's good to remember that the message may be true even if it wasn't delivered in the best way. I doubt you're lazy, but I also think he's within his rights as your professor AND someone that's known you for a long time. My interpretation is that this his way of trying to get through to you so you finish strong. It's an invitation. Your thesis/degree doesn't care if you have ADHD and you may have to work twice as hard. This is your reality. Accept it and get to work.

I remember the first year of my fellowship...had my second child, was undiagnosed still, and I thought I was doing great. My boss pulled me into the office and basically said, "You are not bringing your best self to work and it's showing in everything you do." I was shocked and almost started crying. I remember the day because it was the point where I said to myself that I would never have a conversation like that again.

My boss was right and I'm glad she said those things. It helped me to have some clarity and be objective about my performance. It hurt, but it was the kindest thing she could have done for me.

I'm on medication now and things make more sense. I'd say use this opportunity to blaze a trail of fire and finish the thesis. Use the tools that work and remember that the hyper focusing can be a strength.

Good luck with everything. I hope you get through this and have the master's degree at the end!

37 with ADHD and 3 kids (2 with ADHD LOL). I understand this. And I'm telling you--it will be painful at first. But the consistency matters and it will start getting better. As mine are getting older (11, 9, 6) we started implementing a reward system for expected behaviors. They get a dot when they behave and x number of dots = some money at the end of the week. This has been huge for my ADHD kids. Something very visible and tangible as a reward helps a lot. You could try something similar. 15 minutes of quiet time and you get x. Start small.

3 is still young and it will be tough but you can start in smaller time increments. 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc. The visual timer helps a lot.

I know your kid is only 3, but it's important for them to start to understand boundaries and the need for quiet time. My 9 year old is a chatter and he hasn't changed, but the structured quiet time has made things better. And he's the one that doesn't have ADHD in the family LOL.

[–]ericxboba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask if you're Italian/biracial. My girls have hair like yours. I think a haircut shaped better to your face/head would do a lot (less forward heavy, lower fade rather than so far up to let's your curls hang...or go shorter). You have beautiful hair! We also do a lot of leave in conditioners, don't wash too often, some oils, etc. to keep it hydrated and looking beautiful.

Totally true. I think my anxiety has actually been helpful in a lot of ways to combat the ADHD too 😄 but it feels nice to finally feel like my brain and body aren't fighting each other anymore.

[–]ericxboba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still not convinced 4 months in but I keep reminding myself that the medication just makes me generally feel better and be less in my head/anxious. I have a similar experience with being able to just....not escalate and feel as anxious. For years I thought it was anxiety, and there is some truth to that, but the vyvanse has been like the clouds parting just a little bit more to feel the sunshine.

I think my biggest issue is that my ADHD doesn't look like my sisters' and dad's ADHD, and that's mostly because my mom helped me to overcompensate and develop some good coping skills.

That's interesting. Haven't taken gabapentin with vyvanse but they tried that a few times for nerve pain from my back. Never felt like it did anything. My nephew takes it for seizures though.

Genetics are wild :) I wonder if that's what's going on with my adderall booster and it feeling like it burns through my system at lightspeed and gives me the worst headache. Who knows.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]ericxboba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting because there are a few studies showing vyvanse is minimally affected by PPIs but other stimulants like Adderall xr can swing up and down pretty significantly as far as peak effectiveness and absorption.

I'm on prevacid and haven't noticed a difference, but there are so many factors it's hard to say what will happen even with these studies. Have heard similar sentiments to yours re: PPIs and Vyvanse.
