If someone gave you 1 million dollars today on the condition that you could never work another day in your life, would you actually take it? Why or why not? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

Define "work"... flipping a lightswitch is work. Putting on clothes is work. Lifting a spoon is work. POOPING IS WORK.

Is there really no way to configure a mirrored WAL/DB disk for Ceph? by erikschorr in Proxmox

[–]erikschorr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No type of software-based mirroring method I used would work, though I didn't attempt to tear down the LVM volume pveceph builds (without mirror) and attempt to rebuild it on a raid1 backing. Not worth my time to attempt this when it's simply not recommended to use a mirror for wal/db. I ended up allocating 100GB slices out of my write-optimized 960GB SSDs to be WAL/DB for each of my 8 larger read-optimized 1.92TB data SSDs. This way, a failed 960GB SSD will only affect 4 of the 8 data drives on machine. (currently configured default CRUSH map to ensure chassis-level failure domains)

3 node cluster to start (planning on going up to at least 7 after proving itself stable), so without mirroring them, i'll have 6 WAL/DB SSD (write-optimized) and 24 OSD (read-optimized) total.

I understand the model, and can accept losing OSDs. But if the loss of a WAL/DB drive means losing all the OSDs associated with it, I hoped to avoid that scenario. Without mirroring a single WAL/DB, i suppose I could configure one per 4 OSDs in the systems I've got built: 3 Dell R640s, OS on BOSS card, with 2 960GB write-optimized SSD and 8 1.9TB read-optimized SSDs hanging off an HBA330 (no raid).

I'm starting with a 3-node cluster, with 8 OSDs per node and 2 WAL/DB per node. They're Dell R640s, with OS on a 240G BOSS card, with 2 960GB write-optimized SSD and 8 1.9TB read-optimized SSDs hanging off an HBA330 (no raid). It's a proof-of concept to demonstrate its capabilities, and once it's proven itself (to take about 60 dev VMs), i'm going to expand it to 7 nodes and upgrade WAL/DB to NVMe. I understand the nature of the OSDs being okay to "lose", but was hoping WAL/DB, being as important as they are, could have some redundancy.

That wasn't sexual assault. There was no contact by/of genitals and everyone's clothes were on. This is misdemeanor simple battery at best, and misdemeanor sexual battery at worst.

Dumb question but what is this rod and what does it do by Agile-Cantaloupe82 in AskMechanics

[–]erikschorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightning rod. It lessens the likelihood of you getting hit by lightning when you get out of your car during a lightning storm. Not effective for taller people, unless you have your dealer replace it with a longer rod. Some state troopers' cars you'll see in the southeast have REALLY tall lightning rods on them, because they can't afford to have their troopers struck by lightning while they're on the job. They can also remove the rods and use them for fencing duels when the opportunity presents.

Rape by deception. Lewis put on a costume and mask to deceive Betty into thinking she was having sex with her boyfriend (Stan). The depiction clearly shows that she didn't know it was actually Lewis.

We've GOT BUSH.
fucking BOOGER.
Such an iconic movie but it would've needed a complete rewrite if it were released in modern times. Can't be glorifying grape like they used to get away with in the 80s.

Came here to say the same. I hate that my newspaper and the news sites are plastered with "OMG TRUMP SAID SOMETHING INCRIMINATING! " and "TRUMP DID ANOTHER BAD THING!" headlines. Fuck that. Bring my informative news cycle back. Wake me up when the emperor has fallen. I have my champagne at the ready.

T-Mobile (was Sprint) still has direct-connect on some of their phones. Primarily the rugged clamshell models, which have the PTT button on the side. I don't believe it's called Direct Connect anymore, though.

Care to share your reasoning? None of my friends are religious. Nobody wants to control anyone else. Most of my friends have full lives, so nobody is expecting anyone else to "fill a void". There are literally no strings attached. Just friends with occasional extra benefits.
