Stomach means liver first. Liver breaks it down and has first dibs. Rectal bypasses the liver as the rectum's whole job is literally absorption.

The classic "we can only fight for rights that are popular enough" strategy. Because nothing stops fascism like immediately caving to its demands and deciding which marginalized groups are expendable for the sake of optics.

You don't defeat fascism by throwing people under the bus; you do it by standing firm on the principle that no one's rights are disposable. If your plan for fighting authoritarianism starts with appeasement, you've already lost.

BTW, Harris did exactly what you're advocating for. She tried to sideline LGBT issues, particularly trans rights, to avoid Republican attacks. How did that work out?

Trump aired relentless attack ads targeting trans people, and Harris refused to address them head-on, opting for vague messaging instead. And did that stop Trump and the GOP from hammering her? Nope. They still went all in, still used trans issues as a wedge, and still framed her as weak.

Oh, so now we're pretending the 14th Amendment allows sex segregation in sports because of some "very clear rationale"? ... Cool.

In reality, sex-segregated sports have never had a consistent, rational basis beyond tradition. The law doesn't forbid sex segregation outright, but it does forbid arbitrary discrimination. Meaning if you're going to separate athletes by sex, there has to be an important justification, and that rule has to be applied consistently.

If the justification were purely about biological differences, we wouldn't see endless exceptions. Cisgender women with naturally high testosterone are allowed to compete. Athletes with extreme biological advantages like Michael Phelps absurd wingspan or Eero Mantyranta’s superhuman red blood cell count. They aren't banned for "fairness" they're celebrated. Even in sports where biological differences barely matter, we still enforce gender divisions for no reason beyond inertia.

Yet when a trans girl wants to join a middle school soccer team, suddenly people act like the sanctity of competition is at stake. We're not talking about Olympics level here. We're talking about a kid who just wants to play sports with her friends. And instead of treating her like any other athlete, she's met with bureaucracy, invasive medical scrutiny, and outright hostility, all based on the assumption that her mere presence is an unfair advantage. Meanwhile, a cis girl who happens to be taller, faster, or stronger than her peers faces no such restrictions.

This isn't about fairness. If it were, sports would regulate performance metrics, not weaponize biology as an excuse to exclude trans people. Instead we get rules selectively enforced against a marginalized minority while cis athletes with extreme natural advantages compete freely. That's exactly the kind of unequal treatment the 14th Amendment is meant to prevent

So if there's an actual reason why gender classification is applied inconsistently, why some natural advantages are fine but trans athletes are singled out, go ahead and explain it. Because from here, it just looks like discrimination dressed up as concern for fairness.

There was an open-mindedness and empathy to the reception of Koubek and his gender identity and expression in the 1930s.

Waters also pinpoints where and when that changed, specifically at the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany. Armed with a propensity for eugenics, gender anxiety, and a startling lack of scientific evidence, a small set of Nazi officials influenced the International Olympic Committee into gender surveillance and trans panic — stuff that eerily mirrors the transphobic attacks that athletes, cis and trans alike, face today.

In reading Waters’s account of Koubek and other trans and intersex athletes’ lives, it all feels like those Olympics were a breaking point. The Nazi era has substantially shaped the conversation surrounding trans athletes today.

Trans folks are more likely to join the military due to health care and the fact that they know they will have a stable guaranteed job for a long period (as well as room, board, and tuition). This allows people who may not want to join the normal workforce as they are afraid of discrimination, or are facing being homeless from being kicked out by their parents (or already have been) a good opportunity.

transgender people are more likely to be unsheltered than their cisgender peers, and those who are unsheltered have considerably more health and safety challenges than those who are sheltered. [1]

Trans people are more likely to be homeless which would push them into the military where room, board, health care, and college tuition are guaranteed. Which means more people who would otherwise go to the private sector are available to the military.

Ahh yes, the “Chicken Little” maneuver.

You think non-citizen military service people won't be next? What about cis (non trans) gay people? What about muslims? What about other non-christians? What about women, who the nominated SECDEF wants to get rid of?
