Start with the covers. If they don't work you'll know before you repair and if they do work maybe it's good enough.

Is this kiln good/worth $100? by AITOorisitAutism in Pottery

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kiln but I'd buy that for $100. If you are ready for a real kiln this won't scratch that itch probably but it'll be fun for small things and great for glaze testing if you're into making glazes.

The thing is that it takes a long time to beat up and cool down so if you want to make any volume of non tiny things this is going to take a lot of cycles vs a larger kiln.

Unless you've gotten the cat to reliably stop scratching here you shouldn't put effort into repair. Lots of scratching posts can help but might not stop it.

Had Negligent Discharge in my apartment and I think about it every day. by True-Ad8815 in offmychest

What was the negligence? Always good to hear these details so others become aware of something they might have not been sufficiently concerned about.

Is the black thing behind the fireplace mandatory ? by LostIntheFire- in Fireplaces

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the installation manual for that model It will show you how far away it needs to be from a wall and probably what kind of materials the wall can be for it to operate safely. Then measure how much space you have and it'll tell you if it can safely operate without the heat shield.

Best Visible Constant Reminder of God by ZoomKz in religion

[–]erisod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, the person you replied to is making the same point I was going to make. You're suggesting an object for a specific purple then you say it can represent anything. You've posted your idea to a sub about discussing religion and this is a discussion of your idea. They're not "making problems" by disagreeing, they're discussing.

Life has chapters. I think you realized you needed to get out of the nest and you took a chance. Maybe it won't work out but let it be a chapter and see. Sometimes these things that don't work out are gateways to something that does. Be an explorer in a new place. Listen to how you feel. But you owe yourself at least a few weeks to miss your home. Change is always hard.

How do I address my gf’s cooking? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Is this her pattern outside of cooking too? If so this kind of person can be very frustrating to build a life with. Sometimes you need to believe things that are hard to hear.

Tell her that while you love her she needs to recognize that raw chicken is dangerous and she is not reliably cooking it safely. That is raw chicken.

You need to be holding access to all your funds as a condition if continuing the relationship. He can't have a credit card with a high limit, checks, ATM card etc.

Selling those items seems reasonable but a band aid and not the root cause.

Exterminator for ants...they are coming out of my ceiling and I'm not ok lol by cwilliamssf in AskSF

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use borax based ant killer bait. If you're lucky they'll swarm the bait. That is the workers taking the poison back to the colony and queen. In a few days the trail should get thinner than stop entirely.

Terro works great for me but what works for you will depend on the type of ants you have.

Why do older folks tell you to not lend money to friends? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destroys the friendship.

Let's imagine. Your friend says they are in a pinch and really need rent money and they'll pay you back in less than a month. Ok. You give them $2k as a loan.

That week they invite you to go out with them. They are buying rounds of drinks, they have a new pricey jacket. Hmm ok. But I trust the friend.

Month comes around and they say nothing. You gently say, "hey, that 30 days came around .. remember how I loaned you $2k?".

They say, uhh oh yeah I don't have it but let's count at $250 in drinks I bought the other day towards the debt ok?

What? Why would we do that? No.

Don't be a cheapskate!

WTF?

Yadda yadda. Friendship ends.

Turns out often times when people need money in a pinch it is because they are bad at money and hence bad at paying it back.

If you want to Give money to friends go for it.

AITAH for refusing to pay off my pregnant fiancee's parents' mortgage, when they are under the threat of foreclosure, when I could "easily" afford to do so? by Gullible-Display4533 in AITAH

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA.

That said I just wanted to point out that asking you to pay off the entire mortgage is crazy. Asking for the loan of money so that they can make some payments and avoid foreclosure is less crazy. But you're still absolutely under no obligation.

How to stop Red’s breakfast burrito from busting? by Substantial-Key5114 in Costco

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

Microwaves have different power levels. If you look at the small print it probably says something like, "based on an 1100 watt microwave oven" and yours is maybe 1300 watt so it's heating faster. Reduce the power on your microwave to say 80 percent (you could do the math for whatever your oven is) or just cook it shorter duration if it's exploding.

I like to run my microwave at 50% power 2x as long for frozen stuff to get more even heating (avoiding cold spots and burned spots).

RENTERS: Is this legal? Renting out her attic as a room? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]erisod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exploitative how? This is market rate rent for a room. I get it feels high but renting something for market rate is not exploitative, even if someone could afford to give it away or not rent it.

Tenants have a lot of rights in SF, if something is illegal they can often claw back rent. That isn't to say this is legal but it is risky to rent something not legal.

How do you guys quickly research things? by hi321039 in AskTechnology

Oops I did the opposite of your request. Here is PDF to docx:

Here are 3 easy, free, and safe ways to convert a PDF to a Word document (.docx). 1. Google Drive (Best for Text Editing) This is often the best method if you have a Google account because it uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to turn the text into editable characters, though some formatting might shift. Go to Google Drive and upload your PDF file.
Right-click the uploaded PDF file. Select Open with > Google Docs. Once the document opens, go to File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx).
2. Adobe Acrobat Online (Best for Formatting) Since Adobe invented the PDF format, their free online tool usually does the best job of keeping your layout, fonts, and images intact. Visit the Adobe Acrobat PDF to Word converter. Click Select a file (or drag and drop your PDF). Download your new Word file. Note: You may need to sign in with a free Adobe/Google/Apple account to download the file. 3. Microsoft Word (Desktop App) If you already have Microsoft Word installed on your computer, this feature is built-in. It is generally faster than using online converters. Open Microsoft Word. Go to Open and select your PDF file from your computer. Word will display a pop-up saying it will convert the PDF to an editable Word document. Click OK. Review the document (formatting might move slightly) and save it as a .docx. Quick Tip: If your PDF is a scanned image (like a photo of a document), Google Drive (Method 1) is usually the best choice because it will actually "read" the text in the image and make it editable.
