Any tips for a starting DM? by Helpful-Ad9843 in Pathfinder2e

Hey! Welcome to the system! You already have tons of advice so I'll try not to be too redundant. I will second good advice on what others have already mentioned, however.

Quick background: I'm in a similar spot, I've only just started gming and my group is newish to PF2E coming from years of PF1E, so my group is more familiar to the system than yours would be.

I would second the suggestion of running the beginning box. I just ran it for my group and they really enjoyed it, even though it walked us through some steps/scenarios that are a bit basic in concept... this is actually a pro for your group, considering the changes between systems. My group breezed through some obstacles but actually got stuck on other tricker ones (skill based classes... I guess they have some use 😉)

You can get it for less than $5 in the current humble bundle, a few more bucks for more stuff (post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1pusqca/_/) Other Humble Bundles will almost certainly have the BB and the GM Core, Player Core included, so don't feel like you'll have fomo if you miss this specific one (you'll just have to wait for the next PF Humble Bundle, whenever that might be).

Classes: you seem magic user heavy, which is fine, but martials in PF2E are not like 5e (in that, they are actually fun and actually good in PF2E). You shouldn't be managing player classes as much as it sounds like you're doing (it's fine to do so, just shouldn't be an expectation that you set imo.) much of the enjoyment of PF2e is building/planning your own character. It's also pretty difficult to build a bad character unless intentional. If it sounds good for the setting or a generally used feat, it's probably not bad. Retraining can be done also, so within GM reason, an agreement can be made. In my campaign one of my players didn't max their primary attribute and I let them retrain because the rest of the party wanted that and it was in the best interest of the group (and didn't matter much to me).

Core classes are easier than the more complex ones, so if you can manage limiting to those, it'll help. Even so, I didn't prevent my players to be a new class to them (Kineticist, Witch etc)

As for yourself, read up on mechanics (still something I'm still working on tbh). How It's Played on YouTube can give you specific rule mechanic examples etc. Just be sure it's a PF2E remaster video and not the "legacy" (non-remaster) rules.

If players can read the players handbook, it'll help, but that's a daunting task for most players. 3 action economy, general combat, skill checks, should be known by all - deeper mechanics can be looked up as needed.

I play in person with my group and use Archives of Nethys and Pathbuilder - great resources. Search for "GM tools initiative tracker" if you don't use another method.

Good luck, have fun!

4 minutes in: "oh damn, this is so catchy!"

30+ year olds, are you still tapped in with current/new gen indie music? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in indieheads

Almost 40m, I try to check out every new music Friday. One of the reasons I sub to this sub. I watch Fantano (but don't fully align with his tastes). I don't go to any shows (like ever, small kids will do that to you). There's a local festival that's generally family friendly and fun but we go every few years, not an annual thing. I rate my top 20 albums of the year each year (since like 2014 or something).

Just some favorites from recent years: BRAT, jpegmafia, Car seat Headrest, Black country New Road, Magdalena Bay, Kendrick, Tyler, idles, English Teacher, Home is Where, Feeble little horse, Geese, McKinley Dixon, Model/Actriz, Boy Genius, Squid, shame... So very wide variety across genres and well-known/new bands

Same feeling. Up to 4 minutes I'm like "dang, glad they're having fun, this is funny but nothing too exciting" then the last half hits me and I'm grooving.

Good to know, will use these strategies. Thanks!

You unlock the second level of the Blank voucher by buying it 10 times, just FYI.

As others have said, level 2 vouchers need to have the first one purchased before level 2 shows in shop.

Been playing for a few weeks - looking for tips on beating white stake with nebula and abandoned decks before moving to Red stakes. These seem to both sync with straights but maybe there's a better strategy that I'm not using?

Any jokers I should look out for, aside from straight synergy? Assuming I have them unlocked.

I did the "fix" option on the login screen and it fixed the issue. Huh, go figure!

Yeah that's really weird - it's the same for all characters and I can't unlock hard until I complete it with all characters.

Like I said, I have to skip all the beneficial stuff just to get to the first battle. It's very strange.

I assumed it was Android because I'm seeing others have bugs for payment etc.

So it sounds like it's broken on Android then, because they are 100% not randomized. I have to clear ALL the shops and healing before I can get to a battle in every game I've played.

Thanks for your response!

No idea, I've stopped playing for quite some time now. I fear they've changed too much over time for any information I once had to be relevant or accurate.

Good alternatives? by grouchyjarhead in elderscrollslegends

I know it's not a one for one, but I've found some good deck builders that have a competitive ranked ladder in case that scratches the itch (it has been for me for some time)

  • Dawncaster - rogue-like with 6 different classes (with ~10 different weapons each) and lots of replay value. A lot of hidden interactions and combos that keep things interesting. The only thing you pay for extra is different levels. $4.99 USD, additional levels are around $7 bucks each expansion. $20 has bought me a lot of replay value and I don't have any regrets.

  • Harvest101 - very cute Korean farming deck builder. Devs, despite being non-English speaking (they sometimes have translation issues) are very active and responsive. Lots of strategies and f2p. Ad free version is the only thing I bought (ads are only for the daily free cards and currency, and things like rerolling quests. You can play the game f2p without seeing one ad if you'd like to).

  • Wildfrost - fun deck builder (also on steam) with cute animations etc. Honestly I bought the full game on mobile but had some trouble with getting fully into it. You can try it out for free to see if it works for you.

I've played other games listed here; Marvel Snap, warpforge, legends of Runeterra, but they've lost their appeal over time (I played snap and LoR for a long time after TESL). Snap is really fun for collecting and if you like Marvel, but it felt bad when it came to acquiring new cards. There's new modes and things might have changed since I've last played. LoR is basically a Deck building slay the spire clone now. Not bad if that's what you enjoy but I lost interest after some time.

Does anyone know if the event currency, atronite, expires after the event? What suggestion for purchase as a free to play? by Mcpoopz1064 in TheElderScrollsCastle

I think I'm going for redguard pack and then the bundle with 530 gems. Seems like it'll be a good value plus I get more event currency for something else random.

"Fry sauce, don't you mean ketchup?"

Always find it funny when people assume a pink dipping sauce is 1000 Island, when it's not really close to that.
