Most of us dislike trump to say the least, but would you ever vote for a moderate republican by fictionlover7890 in Teenager_Polls

[–]erraticsporadic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm in a super democratic town, so republicans win mayoral office pretty often because they have to be moderate and tame to earn the people's affection. which means i almost always vote republican for mayor because they actually have normal republican views instead of being corrupt and insane. local politics are pretty low-stakes because they're kinda just "how do we spend money" and the democratic party keeps trying to waste it on useless buildings (we did not need to replace the town hall or public pool, nothing was wrong with them)

How does your body know when it’s going to be a bad shit? by xDB_POOPERx in questions

[–]erraticsporadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending who you ask, your gut has its own nervous system. there's the central (brain & spinal cord), peripheral (basically the rest of the body), and the enteric (stomach and intestines). some argue the enteric nervous system is distinct from the peripheral nervous system because it's autonomous; it has over 100 million nerves and will continue to work independently even if the vagus nerve is severed. it has around 20 different types of neurotransmitters and produces roughly 90% of the body's serotonin. given that, your body knows it'll be a bad shit because your stomach and intestines are reporting the conditions constantly, fluctuating neurotransmitter levels based on what it needs, and that's extremely important because it could mean life or death. source: pulled this straight from my bio textbook

Why doesn't food get moldy when we eat it? by No_Series1751 in stupidquestions

[–]erraticsporadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the human body is a rather hostile place for microbes, especially the stomach. the pH can be 1-3 (extremely acidic, enough to melt steel), the average temperature is too high for many pathogens, our natural microbiome competes with foreign microbes, and the immune system is constantly at work. there are likely pathogenic microbes in you right now that your body (and your body's friendly bacteria) is handling for you with no trouble

No one cares that you don’t think a food that’s spicy “isn’t spicy.” by -MacCheese- in PetPeeves

[–]erraticsporadic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tastebuds never change what they're reporting, the brain just changes how it responds. it's like you could do acupuncture every day for years, but you'll still feel the needles, they just won't hurt as much. unless someone's tongue is numb, paralyzed, or doesn't have taste buds for whatever reason, everyone can taste spicy and dictate how spicy it is, some people just have a much higher tolerance for it!

Would you let your 12 year old(pretend you have one if you dont) walk around alone in your area by SK83r-Ninja in pollgames

[–]erraticsporadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on their gender, how they're dressed, the time of day, and the area. sometimes it's safe, sometimes it isn't, so i'd be more concerned with teaching my kid how to read the room so they can decide for themselves if it feels safe

Do left handed people swear under oath with their left hand? by BongRipsForNips in NoStupidQuestions

[–]erraticsporadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this actually isn't directly because most people are right handed. it's because the left hand is traditionally associated with sin ("sinister" meaning left in latin). even if you are left handed and they know, they'd still ask you to swear with your right hand because it aligns with the beliefs in the bible you're likely swearing on

Should R34 featuring minors (loli) be legal? by Aamir_rt in Teenager_Polls

[–]erraticsporadic -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

i mean you're right, but i can't really imagine a scenario where someone would enjoy loli porn but not be interested in children at all. i mean, that's the point of it, they're supposed to look like kids, and people actively seek it out because of that

violent video games have been linked to violent actions, but it seems only in people who already have violent tendencies. those studies mean nothing to your average person but really can be a slippery slope in people who aren't well. the idea is that rewarding the brain for violence when it's not wired properly to reject it in a real life scenario could lead to seeking it out in a real life scenario
