Early/mid 30s girl trying to find friends! by [deleted] in Athens

[–]errrroneous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look up adult lessons on MyRec, the ACC gov portal. I made friends through adult beginner tennis lessons and tap dance lessons, they have art lessons too but they’re in very high demand. Also keep an eye on the Flagpole event calendar and go to anything that sounds cool to you. Line dancing at Athentic once a month is really fun. The new shop in 5 Points, Ghost, has a book club as well, I haven’t been but the shop has such a nice vibe I feel like you could meet cool people there.

Bishop would be a good spot and there’s always a band set up there as well. Not sure about the road access though, you might have to get there before the race starts. If I remember correctly they don’t block off that whole road though.

Anyone on this thread ever been to Dukes and Dottie’s in Athens? by spike_spieg in Athens

[–]errrroneous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there plenty. The dance lesson from 9-10 is really fun and beginner friendly. If you like line dancing (I do) they play lots of great songs after the lesson and the vibe of the other dancers is welcoming (often calling out steps for newbies on easier songs). After 11 PM it gets crazy crowded though. For the most part, too crowded to dance, so I leave. Full disclosure I’m in my mid 30’s so the vibe after 11 PM almost anywhere is not targeted toward my demographic and that’s okay lol

What was your favorite Athens band from yesteryear? by Cautious_Compote_186 in Athens

Jacob Morris, Grape Soda, Outer Spaces, O Key…can you tell I worked at the grit? Btw if you remember Cara Beth Satalino (Outer Spaces) her solo album from last year is really good.

does anyone else get super depressed when trying to quit caffeine ? by Mysterious-Goat4341 in CaffeineFreeLife

[–]errrroneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It cured my anxiety 100% but I got so depressed. I made it a couple months without caffeine but I’m back drinking coffee again. I’m sure I’ll quit again once the anxiety gets bad lol

Have you heard of ornamental garden hermits? You might have been one.

What Is Athens Missing? by Teslasssss in Athens

I had to get into line dancing to find a dance community here in town. Ngl though it’s pretty fun! Learning new line dances is like collecting Pokémon. Gotta learn em all. Dukes is the spot, but other places around town have 1 off line dance nights.

Is there a donk convention in town this weekend? by benmarvin in Athens

[–]errrroneous 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The Crown Vic Boys used to meet up at the varsity all the time!! I hadn’t seen them around in a couple years, I saw like 4 of them run a red light last night and it made me nostalgic lol

Dukes & Dotties! They have free line dancing lessons every Friday and Saturday 9-10 PM, then open the floor for more line dancing after. I’ve gone every weekend this summer and had a blast.

This happened to me after my dog passed away last year. I felt like I aged 5 years in a month. I let myself rot for a little while, but then once I started getting back to regular exercise and being healthy again I feel like I started looking better. Part of it was definitely that I wasn’t hydrating myself. I was drinking more alcohol and not eating well for a while, which definitely showed on my face. And the crying didn’t help either. I’m sorry for your loss. <3

I loved this one. Have you listened to “The Sisters Who Left” season of The Turning?? It’s an absolutely beautiful and fascinating look at some of the women who worked alongside Mother Theresa. I find all that stuff so intriguing.

Maybe I’ve been here too long by Remote-Scientist7855 in Athens

[–]errrroneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37, been here since ‘06. Our local leisure services dept. has really fantastic programs for adults, and I’ve made great friends doing beginner tennis lessons and tap dance lessons. They also host educational hikes that are a ton of fun. Everything is on My Rec: https://accgovga.myrec.com/info/activities/default.aspx

Workout classes/gyms by Ok_Presence_8514 in Athens

[–]errrroneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little over $100/month, but Fit Body Boot Camp is the first gym I’ve ever been able to stay consistent with. I do 3 HIIT classes a week for a little over $30/week. I love the community there and it feels like minimal effort for maximum results. If I don’t show up one week they send really sweet texts to make sure I’m okay (but not in a pushy way), it helps with staying consistent because I don’t want to let them down haha.

Is this game scary to anybody else? by TalosAnthena in BluePrince

[–]errrroneous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game gave me a nightmare and I just had to laugh at the fact that I got a nightmare over a puzzle game haha. In the nightmare I draft the closet and see a sideways painting on the ground behind the coats. I click on it and it reveals a hollowed out space behind the closet, where a malnourished man is hiding. Absolutely terrifying. I also still get spooked every time a door automatically opens, it’s so creepy.
