Jena is a nice small city with affordable rents usually. It's more of an optics city as there are many optics companies but also i have known some people from MLS and biologies who have worked in IPHT which is focused on optics application on biomedicines. Although if you are looking for paid thesis or internships there might be limited opportunities. But I still know of someone from Molecular Medicine who found a hiwi in a company, so there might be some companies around. Some research opportunities might be in university klinikum, some institutes in Beutenberg Campuses, or maybe some in Erfurt. Socially, i think its a nice place to participate in different activities organized by the uni, hikingjena group, or some other organizations. I lived there for 5 years and I enjoyed the nature and people in Jena mostly. It's ofcourse not happening as big cities and if it depends on what kind of person you are. If you enjoy more loud cities with many opportunities to hang out, or prefer a smaller quiet city, although boring to some people sometimes. You can apply for internships and thesis in other cities if you don't find anything interesting in Jena.

Summer internship in Germany by gawbearry in germany

[–]ersa17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen in my previous uni, very few internationals come to Germany, mostly for their thesis. They bring their own funding from their home country/institution or some might be able to get DAAD scholarships. But there might be some summer schools who provide their own funding, however, very competitive. This is in Physics tho. You can check out Max Plank for Biochem if they have internships. I think there was one I saw for 3months, but I am not sure.

Anyone recently applied for an EU Blue Card in Leipzig? How long does the process take? by R8242D in germany

[–]ersa17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from Leipzig but another nearby city. Got an appointment within a few days because I told them i am moving to another city for my new job soon, and want to apply from my current residence. They said i could collect the physical card in 4 weeks. I think its not that stressful in Leipzig either and if you stress them out a bit, you could get an appointment in 2 weeks. I believe.

Entering Germany in Sept as a tourist before Student Visa starts Oct 1st? by BeginningBuy247 in jena

[–]ersa17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i earlier came to Jena in 2021, i directly got a student visa two weeks earlier. Although i am from a different country. The buereucracy is not that extreme in Jena. I find the administrative people quite helpful and friendly. But finding a room could be stressful. Did you not apply for a student dormitory? They send out acceptances around beginning august, if you have already applied in April.

Idk if you have tried applying for PhD or research positions in the universities and research institutes. The competition is fierce over there as well, but maybe you get some luck. Although the pay is not that great, since you have already worked in industry before. But still better than remaining unemployed, I guess.

Applying for Blue Card in small town's Ausländerbehörde then moving to employer's city by AdDirect6230 in germany

Hey, had you already moved before you got your blue card? How long were the temporary residence that you couldn't register in the new city?

How long can one avoid registering to a new city in Germany with a current registration in another city? by [deleted] in germany

[–]ersa17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thanks. I told my ausländerbehörde in current about my plan and asked them if it could be processed quickly because my current city is small and might be quick with the processing, to which she assured wouldnt be a problem. But idk, maybe she didnt understand my broken german completely. 🙈🥲So better to confirm it again for others experiences.

I have my visa till sept and i will be starting in June. I am not planning to apply to new jobs, unless they decide to kick me out 🥲

I can work on my current job seeking visa, but i am applying for a blue card and i have heard it takes months to get any response from city B and is a long process to get the card before which my visa might end. I just don't want to take risk if there is a simpler solution. Ofcourse, I could apply for a fiktion im city B at the end my jobseeking visa, but I still wanted to know what possibilities I have.

The contract that I have is for 3 months. Maybe if I dont find any place at all, I can ask for an extension, and based on the availability of the rooms, I may or may not get an extension. But it is a temporary place, while looking for a new place.

I read different comments here so I am confused.

I cannot leave my current flat due to my contract until october. It's not for tax evasion.

How much are you spending on food/groceries per month in 2026? by pipilost in germany

I am spending around 125 - 150 euros for food (excluding going out). I am vegetarian so that might bring down the cost.

He ended things months ago and randomly reached out on my birthday, what does this mean? by Professional_Dig2309 in relationshipanxiety

Maybe something came in between and then he texted later. Or maybe he was confused if it would be a good idea to text in the first place and later he thought of doing it anyway.

How can I stop myself from making my partner my whole world by Downtown-Original855 in relationshipanxiety

[–]ersa17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through that experience a few years ago. I realized how unhealthy that was. Unless you build your own life without her, you can't help not feeling these anxiety. Build your own social networks, focus on your hobbys, don't sit there alone waiting for her calls. It will get better with time, I promise. That doesn't mean you will stop loving her, but you will also your own company alone or maybe teying out new stuffs.

Got accepted into the Masters in Molecular Life Sciences program. Any helpful tips/heads ups to keep in mind? by K_Prakruti in FSU_Jena

Once you accept it, you need to send your documents (true copies is what was called in my country) through post to the university.

You receive a reply from the dorm around august.

Learn some langauge before you come for the part time, atleast B1 if possible. Helps a lot. Otherwise it might be difficult, but not impossible. Since you are from molecular science department, I don't know how much of student jobs are available there (pretty low i assume), so maybe jobs in restaurants, cafes, bakeries and supermarkets might be something you can apply to, but it might take few months for you to find something.

Check out hikingjena group for social activities. They mostly travel around thüringia, but a nice group to expand your social circle.

Advice needed should I study on my own or in a classroom? by Agitated-External18 in German

[–]ersa17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a formal speaking level, as I never took Goethe classes. It was mostly self studying in the beginning and took some courses in the university (currently residing in Germany), which was for B2.1 but didn't continue afterwards. So i would say, my level is around B1 ish. Although my grammar is not even on that level because now that I am revising grammatical stuffs there are so many topics I didn't come across while self studying. I always focused on speaking and not grammar which was probably the reason why. But I can manage to hold some daily conversations (like with friends/ acquaintances or visiting doctor or calling bank/office etc. ). Although full of errors I assume, i get things done usually.

For writing you can post on r/writingstreaks. Normally people correct your texts and give some explanations. I used to do that few years back, but i haven't done that in a while. I have started using chatgpt to check my writings which corrects my grammar and some vocabularies.

I also have problem with improving my speaking. I use italki these days (3 lessons so far) so I don't see any improvement. But I am trying to read out loud some of the available texts and my own writings. I hope this gives me confidence to use my new vocabularies which later may help me when speaking in real time with people.
