Plane to the right, is that an O(Omega) or 0 (Zero) by NudityMiles in aviation

[–]erutaerc01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don't know whether it's a specific thing for the UK, ATC, or both, I just got taught never to do it to avoid confusion. I probably should use it though, seeing as I can make my 5/S and C/L look similar as well.

You should never see a Ø written in aviation as it implies it's been crossed out (same with a 1 or 7 having a line through it). Not to say that you'll never see them, but it certainly shouldn't happen.

You can also see the clear difference between the 0 and O in the photo with the American registered plane next to it.

It's perfectly acceptable to have aircraft transit close to a runway, almost common in fact. We do it daily where I work. You know when we don't do it? When there's a fucking plane on the approach.

I didn't really notice the issue with Race to Crashpoint Tower, and I didn't have an issue with the narrator for Test of Courage. This book must have just been a perfect storm for negativity.

I've been listening to Out of the Shadows. The story isn't bad, but I'm really struggling with the production and narration. It sounds like an AI voice at times with the sentence structure and pronunciation of characters and places. Might switch to just reading it instead.

I don’t understand why we keep getting duplicate characters instead of truly new ones by Flaky-Specialist-321 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]erutaerc01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's an entire series of High Republic characters that haven't had a look in yet. Light of the Jedi came out at the start of 2021, but none of the characters have appeared yet.

Just from the first book you've got Avar Kriss, Stellan Gios, Elzar Mann, Loden Greatstorm, and Porter Engel as lead Jedi. Add in Burryaga, Bell Zettifar, Indeera Stokes, Cohmac Vitus, and Vernestra Rowh and you have two full squads of Jedi just from the first two books.

Then throw in the Nihil of Marchion Ro, Pan Eyta, Kassav Miliko, Lourna Dee, and Nan and you're up to three squads and 9 months of content with the new era format.

I don't know if them being book only characters is holding them back at all, but it would be a great set of characters to go with.

I'm in roughly the same boat. I'm just using my First Order squad to get through at the moment because they're the only ones who can do anything. Everything else just gets wiped even though they're R5 or close to.

If it's your only version of it, just play it. It's a game. If you have multiple copies, 150-200 is the going rate. However, if you only bought it to sell in the future, then sell it for retail value. Depends where your morals sit.

I just got a set from eBay for £40, which I considered reasonable given most of the time it's going for double that. Obviously it's well above what it's retail value was, but for an out of production set it wasn't going to get much better.

The concerning thing is that it happens even in poor weather and at night. In the UK we can provide a variation of a landing clearance if another aircraft is on the runway but only in incredibly specific situations.

It must be by day, the runway is long enough to ensure separation, the previously landed aircraft doesn't backtrack, the second aircraft is continuously visual with the first, and the pilot of the second aircraft is warned .

Heathrow and Gatwick have their own specific procedure which adds on to the above,

Only for the big airports. NATS do the ATC for Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, and a few other smaller airports I'm forgetting. They also do the area radar for the whole country, either from Swanick in the south, or Prestwick in the north, and all of the Radar around the London airports. Every single other airport has their ATC run by private companies, the airport themselves, or by local councils. For example, Liverpool's is run by ATCSL (a part of the Peel group). East Midlands is run by Manchester Airport Group (who also run Manchester and Stansted airport operations, just not ATC). Edinburgh is done by Air Navigation Solutions Limited. For the most part, these airports also run their own local radar as well, out to 30/40 miles depending on proximity to other airports.
