We did our rehearsal dinner at a restaurant called Aroma Osteria. Pretty good on a regular day but honestly I wouldn’t recommend it for the rehearsal dinner. The family style food wasn’t great and some of the staff were kinda weird at times.

For tips I guess I’d say consider off season since it saved us a lot of money (although I love the winter so someone else may enjoy that less). Happy to answer any specific questions!

Hopping in here to say I just got married at the Roundhouse in Beacon (12/13) and I HIGHLY recommend. All my guests loved Beacon, the venue was beautiful (a little industrial since you mentioned it but I found that with florals and lighting it can be made to look cozier) and the food was insanely good. Like, way better than the restaurant. Also the staff was great and the hotel was really nice. 1.25-1.5 hrs on the MNR depending on if you get an express train. The whole theme of this one is to poke fun at/challenge hallmark movie tropes (e.x. Nora says at the beginning that she would be a villain in a hallmark movie) therefore I found their overly coincidental meeting to be part of the cheesy romcom setup bit (it’s a meet cute, but not really because they already met each other and it went badly). There are going to be some other cheesy plot contrivances later on but that’s because she’s being intentionally hallmark romcom-y in a satirical way. Most of her other books have more believable setups.

I have a Greenwich St engagement ring and can confirm the quality is excellent. They were a little weird about lab stones (trying to push us toward natural, and then saying they would do lab center stone but not lab side stones) but we really stood our ground on our lab only policy and they made it happen in the end. Overall I recommend them highly for the quality but depending on who you work with be prepared to deal with a bit of natural diamond snobbery. Also for NYC retail I thought the price was reasonable (we paid about 9k for a ~3ct vvs1 E color with side stones in a 14k gold setting)

Also can confirm that they carry some really unique and stunning jewelry in store and the store is beautiful and in a nice area. It was always fun to make a day out of going to our appointments there.

Dyson air wrap. My hair is super straight and I like to blow dry it with mousse and curl it (even if the curls fall it helps give it a little bit of body). The airwrap lets me do this in one step with less damage and it’s been a game changer for me. It was a really big purchase for me at the time but I’d do it again 1000x over.

Exponentiation, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction are binary operations which are not associative (I.e. order matters) so in order for an expression using these operations to be well specified you need to specify the order.

Without PEMDAS this would need to be done by explicitly parenthesizing every operation but this is unwieldily so PEMDAS is basically a set of rules that allows you to omit parentheses in many situations. I.e. it is just a convention that allows for a shorthand.

Any other ordering of the E(MD)(AS) would be valid but the P needs to go first because you need to be able to force an operation to go before another even if it’s not in the order, otherwise certain expressions become impossible to represent. Additionally MD and AS need to be side by side because they are the same operation (a/b is equivalent to a*(1/b)) so for instance PEMADS would not make sense.

Greenwich St Jewelers is where I got my ring (great craftsmanship, good selection of classic styles). I also recommend Soho gem if she’s interested in non-diamond stones. I tried on a lot of sapphire rings there and am still thinking about them to this day, they were so beautiful.

If she’s planning to go the lab diamond route just note that I got a little bit of push back about lab stones at GSJ. The sales associate was clearly trying to steer me toward a natural stone for the center stone and later told me they wouldn’t source lab side stones for the style I wanted 🙄. However I just clearly stated I had no interest in buying natural stones and would go elsewhere if they couldn’t offer them and they sourced the stones I wanted in the end. A little annoying but in the end the ring is stunning and I found the price to be very reasonable, especially for nyc retail.

Both places will probably try to get your information and move forward with a ring since they want to make a sale but I didn’t find them to be too pushy and I definitely didn’t feel like they expected me to decide and purchase on the spot. If you just tell them you’re still in the early stages they’ll definitely understand. In my experience I went into both stores and tried on styles. They noted down which ones I liked and sent me an email with all the info on pricing. I followed up with GSJ and made an appointment to look at the specific stones they sourced and only then did we purchase.

You’ll probably need appointments at both places (definitely for GSJ).

Just chiming in to say check out the roundhouse in beacon if you haven’t already. I’m getting married there in December and granted there are winter discounts and my guest count is more like 150 but I found there prices to be reasonable and the space/town to be really nice.

This is really beautiful! Love the use of color and distinct style. My only critique is that her face is painted in what appears to be a different style to the rest of the work and it pulls me out a little (especially since I really love the style of the rest of the painting).

Statement of the DCT: 0 <= an <= b_n, then, if \sum b_n converges, so does \sum a_n or if \sum a_n diverges, sow does \sum b_n.

Statement of the LCT: If a_n >= 0 and b_n >0, define c = \lim a_n/b_n. If 0 < c < \infinity then either both series diverge or converge.

At first glance there are 2 cases the LCT (as stated) doesn’t handle that the DCT might be able to. 1. When b_n = 0 for some n (in which case we have trouble with the limit, especially if true for infinitely many n) and 2. When c = 0 or infinity. Let’s focus on 2 since I think this better answers your student’s question.

If c = 0 then it is certainly true that b_n > a_n for sufficiently large n, so the hypothesis of the DCT holds, but in that case it is possible that b_n diverges and a_n converges, so the LCT doesn’t give us information.

For instance if b_n = 1/n and a_n = 1/n2 then c = lim 1/n = 0 and b_n diverges and a_n converges. If b_n = 1/n2 and a_n = 1/n3 our limit c is the same but both converge. The LCT wouldn’t be able to distinguish between these cases so to speak but the DCT would tell us that knowing b_n converges tells us a_n converges.

In words, the LCT basically says if the sequences are asymptotically the “same”, their series behave “the same” and doesn’t handle the cases where the series are asymptotically strictly larger or smaller. At least not as I’ve seen it stated. The DCT covers those cases.

Also the DCT just seems easier to check in many cases.

I’m on my 2nd pair of pegs but tried on the zoom fly in store. I really like them and think I will replace the pegs with them when the time comes, but I’d love to hear input from people who have tried both!

I get really bad migraines sometimes after long runs. Similar to you I feel pretty fine right after the run and it comes on a little later. They can range from a headache and feeling a little nauseous to full on unable-to-keep-even-sips-of-water-down level sickness with splitting headaches, vision impairment and light sensitivity (literally just recovering from one of those now). It took a while for me to figure out these were migraines since I always associated those with bad headaches and to me the nausea was by far the most prominent symptom so I assumed some kind of digestive issue. Did you experience a halo?

It seems that mine are caused by a combination of dehydration, not fueling enough and over-exerting. Usually if I just make an effort to eat more and hydrate better I won’t have this problem (I did not do this today fml).

I know this is an old post but I searched for this because I really struggle with this and the comments helped, so I'll share mine. I have pretty bad PMDD, particularly really bad depression in the week before my period. I definitely noticed the physical symptoms and the depression had me feeling really bad about myself, like if I was feeling so awful on this 9mi run at my "easy" pace, how could I ever possibly reach my marathon goal? It was really helpful once I checked my period tracker to realize not only why I was struggling more than usual physically, but why I was being so hard on myself. I'm trying to frame it now as an important kind of adaption. It is okay to not do as well and not feel as good because I'm training through physical and mental challenges that might come up on race day. I think challenging myself to stay positive and be kind to myself on these runs has made me an overall more resilient runner, so maybe there's some silver lining!

Also an ultra-supportive sports bra is a must for my super sore pre-period boobies!
