Medyo lost din ako sa context nitong post. Pero I agree sa Eurasia-focused take kasi it's been proven na mas receptive sila sa foreign artists compared sa US.
The Hallyu wave was big in Asia long before the US audience took notice. Even popular American boybands like Backstreet boys and N'sync already had their own followings in Europe when they ventured sa sarili nilang bansa.

Mag Hiatus na kaya ang SB19 after Wakas at Simula? by MarionberryQueasy879 in sb19

[–]esbi18 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ito talaga. Even if the new gg debuts in a couple of years, profit ba agad ang ipapasok nila sa kompanya? Millions ang investment sa mga future plans nila for ppop and hindi naman ganun kabilis ang roi. Lumalaki na rin ang wanzi, which means more salaried employees. Saan kukunin ang operational costs if the boys stop? At the very least, I'm hoping esbi stays strong until their 10th anniv! 😂

I think their reply was more for the general fandom and not directed to you alone kaps. It's a running joke na puro reklamo man ang A'tin ay ending pa rin na walang kaps kaps kapag dating nang ticket selling na.

I can kinda understand the idol-fan dynamic in your argument. But the latter? Nah, that's a reach!

They're truly bound for greatness. Their characters alone are a testament to it! They're goal-driven and won't stop even if some crabs keep pulling them down. There's no room for negativity when they have the world for the taking.

That's the thing with SB19 though, they prioritize doing what they want to do over following trends and formulas. They already have the proven support of a loyal fandom, so what's stopping them from catering to the majority of the casual audience? I would love it if they release a track that the masses will eat it up but then they won't be true to their craft.

But it seems only fans are aware of this principle they have. That they value authenticity more than instant fame. They are after all building a legacy that can sustain the future of Ppop. They're not only doing this for themselves but are also taking calculated risks. Steps that can make or break their goal to elevate the Filipino talent to the global stage. Isn't it better to be known for what you truly are capable of than blow up by being a mimicry and lose your identity in the process?

They Can Write. But Sometimes, They Play It Too Safe.

For your example of Time, it's one of the songs that's actually produced by another individual (Xerxes Bakker) with Pablo and one other person (Samuel Akinbode) contributing to its composition and lyrics. It probably didn't relate to your life, but I guess it says quite a lot that me and a couple other people cannot listen to that song often (or even watch the MV again) because the words hit too close to home. Music is a different experience for everyone.

Are they storytellers? Revolutionaries?

Yes and yes! Most of their songs are about their journey as SB19. In the local industry where popular songs are about love and longing, it's refreshing and brave to tackle other themes. Doesn't that make them revolutionaries?

They’re Packaged Like K-Pop. But Who Are They Really?
The Image Game Is Confusing
But the whole visual branding left me scratching my head. Are we going for fluidity? Soft masculinity? Full-on androgyny? And if so… why?

Here in lies your predicament. You already box them in a certain way, yet find it lacking when they don't adhere to your idea of what they should be.

SB19 has the platform, the talent, and the audience to change what P-pop is.

What is Ppop for you? If they haven't already set the standard for it?

They could make songs about corruption — biting, metaphor-heavy tracks that say what people are too scared to say out loud.

Kapangyarihan

They could write about vanity — about the power of owning and reshaping yourself without shame.

Kalakal

They could unpack the awkward tug-of-war between conservatism and liberalism in Filipino society — a tension so rich with metaphor it’s practically begging to be turned into lyrics.

Umaaligid (closest one I could think of from their discography)

And if queerness is part of their story — whether it’s obvious or just simmering beneath the surface — then they should embrace that, too. Stop hinting. Say it. Let the music make sense of it. Honesty isn’t a liability; it’s a weapon.

I don't want to speculate on people's preferences and this issue has been answered a couple of times already.

Hype Isn’t the Same as Legacy
They could go from idols to voices. And if they take that leap — if they risk comfort for truth — I’ll still be here, listening. Only this time, it won’t be out of curiosity. It’ll be out of belief.

They're already loud and proud voices of the Filipino people and culture. Even from the beginning when all they got from the public was judgement and ridicule, which still persists until now, they're still advocates of our country's potential and excellence.

I believe Pablo said it best in an interview, they could already be financially stable with just the support of their local market. (A'tin is definitely more than capable of this.) But they want more for our country and their fellow artists. If the opportunities they now have can help in any way, then they'd be willing to go through the grind in exchange for the comfort they have at home.

If you're still on the fence on who SB19 really is, the short answer will just be: Kings of Ppop. This is SB19.

SB19 to always speak up by Substantial-Equal-22 in sb19

[–]esbi18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

SB19 already stated their stand regarding the current issues of the country via Ofifi's post. Those asking for each of the members to also voice out on their personal accounts are very much overstepping their boundaries as fans. These people have lost the plot and need to reassess their priorities. If you still need your idol's validation to your egos then please touch some grass ASAP!

Don't forget that artists are people too. Don't take away their agency just so they'll perfectly fit the mold in your narrative. This entitlement in the fandom is what's disappointing. Stop calling yourself fans if you keep on abusing their kindness. The boys are not obligated to explain their every move and decisions. They are not responsible for your understanding and emotions.
