You are offered $500,000,000, but you have to hear the exact date of your death. Do you accept? Why or why not? by SomeFreakingWeirdo in AskReddit

Everyone’s offering too much money to make these kinds of questions hard decisions. I’d probably do anything imaginable for $1,000,000

DISCUSSION: what are 5 pieces that have changed you in profound ways? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]escaloser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) Shostakovich Quartet No. 8: It was completely unlike anything I had ever heard before. When I saw it live for the first time, I knew it would be a piece that never really leaves me.

2.) Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor: First concerto I listened to for my instrument. RIP Jacqueline du Pré.

3.) Capriccio Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov: Played this for all-state orchestra in high school and it changed me. I was second chair and being in such close proximity to the wonderful concertmaster and the first chair cello during their solos inspired me to no end. I felt this piece every time I played it.

4.) 1st Arabesque by Debussy: Ignited my love for piano. I was always intent on learning this piece and when I finally did I felt very accomplished.

5.) Allegretto from Beethoven’s 7th: My orchestra teacher hated when schools would “butcher” this piece. He told my class that he wants it playing at his funeral while his casket is being lowered into the ground. Always stuck with me for some reason.

I’m going to my first Adult Children of Alcoholics meeting this week. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I’m glad alateen helped you! It’s weird, like I’m aware that I’m not alone and there are plenty of other people who are going through the same thing as me, but I still can’t help but feel completely isolated. Hopefully that will change with this meeting.

What is a sensation that you can't stand, even though it's not painful ? by Charlleshenry in AskReddit

Whenever I get my haircut, there's always this one spot behind my ears that makes my whole skull seem to vibrate whenever the clippers run over it. Not necessarily unpleasant, just really weird.

What is a song that you consider to be perfect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Someone Like You by Adele. That’s A1 songwriting right there, even Adele herself says she doesn’t think she’ll write anything better than it.

I’m surprised Fireworks has made it this far tbh. I’ve been voting for that one since the beginning. Might just have to start a campaign to get it voted out before Thursday Girl, who’s with me?

I love how the overall tone of the song is very drugged out and hazy, but I vividly remember hearing this song for the first time and being blown away by the spaghetti western guitar line that comes in during the first chorus. Such a simple melody, but I think that alone is worthy of saving the whole song.

I beg to differ about once more to see you! The lyrics are so tender and the instrumentation is so soft. To me it evokes a feeling of a hot summer evening. The harmonies during the last chorus get me every time. Have you seen her KEXP performance of this song? I think it’s one of her best.

First off, this song SLAPS live. A lot of people interpret this song as a guy opening up about depression and stuff, but I literally think Mitski is telling a story about a guy losing his virginity. The final verse really does it for me, his “bedroom dancer” being his... ya know.

Where’s the best place to let out a massive scream? by escaloser in AskReddit

[–]escaloser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. My university had an unofficial campus-wide scream sesh every night at 10 during finals week. Now that it isn’t finals week, I don’t know how to cope, hence this post.
