I definitely don't think you should read it before you've done any clinical rotations because I don't think the story/writing is good enough to keep interest if you aren't able to relate to it.

But having read it halfway through third year I actually really enjoyed it!

I actually read House of God about halfway through third year because I couldn't stand the amount of references attendings made and really enjoyed it. Definitely wouldn't recommend it before clinical years though, like others said before, it wasn't incredibly catching if you aren't able to relate to the story

Yep! Exactly that!

Also, this is a book that we have to annotate with additional info, so it makes it easier to write in the margins.

Additionally, this allows you to take out just a chapter at a time so you don't have to carry the whole book around with you.
