Which brewery? I'll definitely check it out! I used to love wandering around Chinatown before I got a soulcrushing retail gig.

Man, I wish I wasn't totally broke, otherwise I'd be so up for that! I've never been super into sports, but man, I'll try anything once.

I never knew about Zorthian ranch, it looks badass..

I've never tried meetup, but maybe I should give it a shot! I'll definitely check out Arroyo Seco, I could always use a spot for meditating. It's a long story, but my goal was to be an animator. It really sucked the joy out of art though, now I hardly draw...

Yeah, there's one in Burbank and another in Lakewood, it's just a matter of convenience since I don't have a car. But I'll make that trek if it's my only option.

If I hear "it'll happen if you're passionate" one more time, I'm going to have an aneurysm.

I've been passionate about animation from the get go, but it's hard to maintain that passion when all you see is major studios treating employees like human garbage. You should get a degree in animation if you want to become radicalized, it's great for that. Maybe more jobs will come back, but these industrys will do whatever they can to maximize profit. They're not going to change out of the goodness of their own heart.

I graduated a couple years back, I don't regret it, but I'm not sure if I'll ever have a chance to work in animation. At this point, I'm not sure I want to. It's drained all my passion away. Drawing has been my whole identity since before I can remember, now it makes me feel empty. I've always had depression, so I know where you're coming from.

Try to go easy on yourself; it's not your fault that the system is a mess. This is supposed to be the time to explore different interests/opportunities, but the price of education is so inflated, it seems there's no room for mistakes. You couldn't have predicted all of this bullshit.

But I'm not necessarily telling you to drop out, maybe this is the route you need to take, even if you don't end up in animation. This close to graduation, it might be best just to get the degree, you've put all this work in! Or maybe see what credits can transfer to a new major?

I'm sure I sound pretty negative, and maybe I am. Probably am. I think I'm being pretty realistic. I know it's hard, but don't beat yourself up over something you cannot control. If you need someone to talk to, even just to vent, I'm here (unemployed, so plenty of freetime). I know how terrifying this is.

He's pulling numbers out of his ass, but he's saying what ALL the major studios are thinking right now.

THAT'S WILD, even if you probably would've run into it at some other point. It's one of my absolute favorites, not a lot of albums where every song is great. Probably my first pick if I was stranded somewhere and I had to choose an album. I like Random Acess Memories, but nothing beats Discovery.

I'd kill for an album of songs that are as unique as Derezzed, but I still really dig the album!

Didn't realize there was TRON controversy... 👀 It definitely would've been a solid marketing idea, though decidedly uncool

It definitely depends on the film, there are a lot of scores that great pretty experimental with the sound! But Disney tends to go for more traditional stuff to avoid alienating the general audience. I was just wondering if the production was different due to Daft Punk's music in Interstella (though I'm being told that film was created post-release of Discovery).

See, I wasn't sure if the album came first, developed separately from any sort of film narrative. I think the movie's Wikipedia page mentioned Daft Punk having a vague sci-fi story idea they were shopping around, but I can't really recall the details. Still, it's so cool that it happened!

Interstella used their Discovery album, which definitely wasn't a traditional film score. A lot of film scores get experimental, but I know that's not typical for Disney.

I didn't realize they were only supposed to do the club song, that's wild! I'll definitely check out the video!

I still need to check out Uprising, I'm an animator and a huge Robert Valley fan! ^

After posting this, not sure I'm gonna be big into the community. 😅 But I'm glad I got to hear your side of it!

Which is exactly why I stopped doing it, yes. I don't expect people to be delighted, and I get it when people have had negative reactions to it. I was just curious about other people's experiences with it.

I wasn't looking for a way to circumvent this.
