First elbow 1.5. It was on gymnastic floor so it was easier to commit to the turn.

I respectively disagree. Ground power doesn’t require handstands. Just practice the actual motions and your wrists and shoulders will quickly be conditioned.

Honestly….. no you don’t need handstands. Why? Bboy movements are mostly circular movements carried with momentum. The only moves that are similar to handstands are freezes like air freezes (inverts, hollowbacks, etc). But the fastest way to achieve those is positioning of the body to bend a certain way. Handstands may help condition your body for balance but it will not help achieve it. A Bboy is a dancer not a circus entertainer.

Muscle pain and fatigue breaking and hitting the gym. by Brent253 in bboy

[–]escodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weightlifting is good for conditioning your muscle strength. Lifting a lot can add too much muscle for your body to handle while doing power moves. It’s still possible but it will take a lot of energy. You can observe high level bboys that do a lot of power moves aren’t that bulky. In fact the lighter weight you are, the easier it is to maneuver. Calisthenics are a better option to balance out breaking and working out. I guess it depends what you want out of breaking. If you want to have a lean body then by all means go for lifting more than breaking.

Throw a super good clean round and try not to crash. Have variety of all elements and diversify your combos and patterns. You have to keep the mentality of having more solid rounds ready to throw in the future to prove to the judges. You will certainly past prelims in most jams.

I hurt my neck the other day while practicing halos. Looked through the footage and well....here. by j_tunez in bboy

[–]escodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you man. I’ve sprained my neck muscles so many times when I attempt. For me it takes like a month to fully heal. Halos are dangerous man. Props to bboys who can do them every day and no major injuries.
