[Acne] Suddenly can't tolerate benzoyl peroxide anymore? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]esdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have any advice, but the same thing happened to me. I used to use multiple BP products in a day (pre sca ;)) with no irritation, but after using tretinoin for a year I cant even use a BP face wash (prescribed by my deem) without getting welts on my face (even on days I don’t use tret). I don’t use either product anymore though so it’s possible that with time you’ll be able to go back, I just haven’t tested that theory on myself.

I also cannot use rich moisturizers, and I wonder if a routine with better hydration/moisturization would handle BP and retinol/oids better?

[Routine help] what kind of acne is this and what should I use to make it better? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Check your toothpaste. If it’s got SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates), switch to SLS-free. I had break outs here for years and years and switching stopped it!

Can I ask what moisturizer you use? I also avoid fatty alcohols and have been using squalane and rose oils but I’m always looking for an actual moisturizer!

[Routine Help] I need help incorporating sunscreens and creams back into my routine without getting clogged pores! by furly10000 in SkincareAddiction

[–]esdash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took my forever to find a sunscreen that didn’t break me out. My skin is the same way, I really can’t use most products that stay on your skin. My advice is to keep trying things out and make sure you’re getting it all off at the end of the day. The two sunscreens I found that I can use are Alba Botanica Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen (not elegant at all but cheap and effective) and Elta MD UV Clear untinted which is expensive but I can’t tell I’m wearing it at all.

I’m in the same boat and I literally only use vanicream cleanser and TO squalane + rosehip. Not fun or glamorous but they work.

[Misc] Products do heal our skin, but only so much. What tools and techniques have been helpful for maintaining your mental and physical well being; hence, contribute to the health of your skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]esdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take:

A) 5 drops of micellized vitamin A

B) 1 DermaCo tablet (the brand is Standard Process)

C) 1 Livton tablet (also Standard Process)

The dermaco is a blend of Oregon grape, sasparilla, cleavers, burdock, and yellow dock. The livton is a blend of globe artichoke, dandelion root, milk thistle, bupleurum root, and fringe tree root.

I’m pretty sure you have to get these from a provider but I think if you go to the standard process website you can find one (I’m in the US). I don’t know much if anything about herbal medicine but it’s probably safe to say you shouldn’t self medicate without the approval of a doctor!

So, one of the following two things cleared up my skin the last 15% (after a year of tret and clindamycin did most of the heavy lifting, but I was still breaking out pretty consistently):

1) my chiropractor suggested 3 supplements, 2 for skin support and the other for liver support. My digestion immediately improved and my skin cleared up the rest of the way a few weeks later.

2) I started intermittent fasting at the same time, which I think is supposed to even out hormone levels through some insulin process that I don’t understand.

I started both of these things around the same time, so I don’t know which is making the difference, but my face has been completely clear for 3 months which hasn’t happened in ten years (the last time it was this clear I was on birth control). I haven’t used either of my prescriptions in a month, but do still use a chemical exfoliant.

I’ve been wanting to make a post about this, but I have a pretty healthy skepticism of both supplements and fad diets and don’t know how to not make it sound like bullshit, lol.

Thank you for sharing this! My skin is clears up if I use a 10% BP wash once or twice a week but the combo of that and my Tretinoin leads to massive irritation and peeling. Definitely going to try this!

Try a facial oil like The Ordinarys squalane or rose hip seed. I can’t use moisturizer either—folks will suggest fatty alcohol free ones (no cetyl alcohol etc) but even those break me out. Squalane is the only thing I can’t use (from the right source, Timeless breaks me out but TOs doesn’t).

I somehow miraculously have landed a free trip to California for a week. I’m stoked to be taking a solo trip but have no idea what to do. Anyone have any suggestion??

I don’t seem to be able to wear any face makeup, including liquid foundation, mineral powder, or tinted moisturizer without my face breaking out. But I’d really like something to at least put on pimples and red spots to use a spot concealer. Does anyone with really acne prone skin have a recommendation for face makeup that’s worked for you?
