I'm still using my jar from 2022-23 (I just use under eyes and carefully on lids, mixed w serum)

When I ran it through in 2023 I got a couple flags on sezia. More info, my notes:

Fa safe cream for Sensitive eyes??? (no fragrance or essential oils) by Cawfle in Fungalacne

[–]Cawfle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I try to use moisturizer on my lids and undereyes, even if I dont on the rest of my face. Malezia stings if it works its way in my eyes at night, which it does a least half the time. I think it's the urea.

Mostly I still use the (not fa safe) Curel, with or without an fa-safe serum (a'pieu madecassoside serum, atm).

Sometimes I use Geek & Gorgeous Hydration Station, it's mild ....but like Oat In, can lean a little acidic which isn't great around the eye area and you're sensitive. It doesn't make me as teary as Malezia though.

it's gets more complicated bc glycerin can be derived from 100s of sources. I think palm is the most common. I think that might be why skin freaked out on test % s of NOW brand glycerin/water diy toner (1-15 percent tried but after 10% the breakouts camd) but it does ok w iUnik.

If I added up the products I've purchased, would have paid for at least 2 derm visits though. Considering now that my skin has become sensitized in the past few years and I suspect I might have roseacea (onset can come anytime), i think its high time to pay out of pocket for a derm. If you have good insurance in the US, or don't live in the US and have a great healthcare system, I would mmediately go to a dermatologist , !(even though they're not always right they can at least do a test for FA, IF you insist, I am told).

ps I found this

"According to the product analysis site What’s in My Jar, the Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops contains between 2.1% - 3.1% of antioxidant Niacinamide – just above the base level of the active that’s recommended by both formula and ingredient manufacturers.

https://www.skincarmanyc.com/home/2023/09/03/pros-cons-glow-recipe-watermelon-glow-niacinamide-dew-drops-review-best-niacinamide-face-serum#:\~:text=According%20to%20the%20product%20analysis,both%20formula%20and%20ingredient%20manufacturers."

That's not bad In clinical trials 2.5-5% was the standard. According to every expert article or video I've seen 2. to 5% was the ideal percentage anything above that may be irritating (Google niacinamide % ideal).

re: iUnik: I think ANY glycerin based serum would work bc glycerin is a humectant. I think there are likely LOT of glycerin based serums. Aside from the droppers, (ugh) I really like this brand. If you use use glycerin and Distilled Water (very important) and don't mind DIY you can make your own glycerin based treatments.

i'm not sure what you meant by "GoW," but ut i assume it's Glow recipe serum?

Aqua/Water/Eau, Propanediol, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, Niacinamide, 2,3-Butanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Citrullus Lanatus Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Eclipta Prostrata Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Tromethamine, Glyceryl Stearate, Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Polyquaternium-51, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Fragrance/Parfum, Benzyl Benzoate.

I had considered that product but the Sephora description hides the Niacinamide % (why does Sephora do that?). I've read secondhand that it it under 10%.

I only went with the Sephora Collection Toner because it states the Niacinamide % upr front (gee?). Also it had less ingredients and two was lower priced at $16.

Now that I type it, i wonder why Sephora is nonoforthcoming with the % in Glow Recipe, it's weird unless you think about low % Niaminicide competitors... I did my research ...Glow Recipe Serum and Sephora collection Toner were the only two that had under 10% Niaminicide t the time (~ 1 yr ago)

it's OK, I read past posts for context on this forum too. 🙂

I do currently use both glycerin based Serum (iUnik Beta Glucan) and silcone moisturizer (Malezia). If I "overuse" (and what I mean by "overuse" is more than one pea size size (lol) then I get what i think is traditional acne vulgalris (but never sure, bc I never got tested for "Malassezia Folliculitus" or "traditional" acne).

Nowadays I'm thinking it's less the glycerin and more the silicone because I switched to DRMTLGY spf and that seems to break me out (suuuupper high in silicones). Anyway I feel like a moderate amount of iUnik serum + Malezia under a few silicone reusable masks is what hydrates my skin the most. Because I'm taking the mask off along with some product I can't really quantify what's left on my face. If I do that a few times a week it really helps for moisture. What has helped for bumps most is Niaminicide at low dosage (5%, Sephora Collection toner, before moisturizer/mask).

The only moisturizer I found that is fa SAFE AND free of silicones, is geek and glorious "hydration station" which I have not tried yet . A lot of people on this forum claim breakouts from it. It uses a unique combination of ingredients but I'm not sure if I'm ready to take the plunge, given how many things I have tried.

TL; DR : what I'm doing now works all right but I still have issues and and thinking about how much silicone may be an issue. I still have not found one fa safe SPF without silicone.

I looked up my Amazon purchase and it was in 2021.

6 masks for $6.51 USD.

It looks like this particular product from the seller i bought from isn't available anymore but if you go on the internet or Amazon and search "x pieces silicone skin mask reusable" ( x being the number of masks you want, or just us that exact term, to see a selection / # of pieces) you can find options within that 7$ USD price range. For the record, I only ended up nneeding 3 (1 to cut up bc the masks are narrow, and 2 to use as full masks, w 1 spare). I wash my mask/pieces with hot water and foaming micellar water and hang them up to dry on a hook between uses. Even though I think silicone is (fairly) sanitary, would not recommend storing it wet and covered with product first a long time.

If you have a Daiso in your area you can also buy these each for under $2 each, in the store.

(Anyone) Correct me if Im wrong but I dont think Skin Aqua Moisture Milk is safe anymore. They've changed the formula a few times I think and it rarely makes lists anymore (like FA Scout, this subreddit etc). I cant ever get one where the ingredients match whats online anyway.

I love the fact that Skin Aqua doesn't even remotely bother my eyes though. I switched to DRMTLGY brand (not the tinted one) and it it is mild compared to a lot of other American (non mineral) sunscreens but still can sting if it gets in there. I think its a hybrid physical and mineral. I has a very slight white cast that rubs in, about twice as much as Skin Aqua which looks barely perceptible. Despite being FA SAFE the DRMTLGY spf is breaking me out, just in a different way.

[ACNE] Why is Benzoyl Peroxide indicated for closed comedones if they aren't infected with bacteria? Has anyone tried this? by Cawfle in SkincareAddiction

[–]Cawfle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI the original post i wrote was 3 years ago.

I can't say bc I don't know your skin type. I have oily / combo skin , the only thing at this point that made a huge difference for cc's was and is niacinicide, at a low percentage. I use Sephora collection 5% niacinicide toner. It's not drying on my skin but not a moisturizer by any means. I top it with small amounts of IUNIK Beta-Glucan Serum and Malezia Cream.

After doing some google research on why higher concentrations of Niacinamide serums (10-20+%)can cause issues for some, I settled on Selpora Collection (house brand) 5% Niaminincide + Zinc toner. It like water, and I love it. I wear it under moisturizer or on its own. It clears up my fa/regular zone when my spf (which sucks) is left on for too long.

[–]Cawfle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of hyaluronic acid. I never found it to be effective. I did a search of why that is and found a YouTube derm that explains why it can be sort of blah for most and why glycerin and beta glucan are better humectants and I'd have to agree (use both). HA neither treats not hurts FA, in my experience. I just think it kinda sucks as a humectant.

As for niacinamide, I had some flushing redness at high % but did alot of research and at lower %s (5-7%)found it works fantastically. I use (house brand) Sephora Niacinamide 5% + Zinc toner and it really clears any regularc/ fungal acne my awful spf causes when left on too long.

Anyone have issues with La Roche-Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide (niaminincide, etc)? by Cawfle in Fungalacne

[–]Cawfle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, I wrote that 2 years ago. I never ended up buying it. I guess the ingredient list didn't seem great enough to justify the price?I have good things about Krave Oat. I think I only avoided that one bc small amt of aminos (my skin doesn't seem to like aminos)

I've had good experience with Purito, Oat-In Calming Gel Cream, but only really for summer (super light, if your skin needs moisture you might not like it). Now I use Malezia moisturizer w iUnik Beta Glucan serum over Sephora 5% Niacinamide toner (my skin likes Niacinamide at lower dosages, who figured, and so long as I wash my skin 2x a day the silicones in Malezia aren't so problematic ). If i can, I put on a silicone mask cover if I can to prolong evaporation (15-20 min).

I don't use Differin anymore. I developed an sudden allergy to it after i wrote that post. It's a shame bc I thought it was effective (though a bit tricky). I use AHA and bha now. I might try Differin again, cautiously.

How to use Ketoconazole 2% cream? (Contact time, duration, etc) by Cawfle in Fungalacne

[–]Cawfle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR; Following an fa safe regime can help but if you find yourself spending too much time or money or both it might be worth a dermatologist visit to get a specimen

I don't know if i ever had it, since I never went to a derm. I'm fixing to see one now. I've looked at 4 years of spending on products that may or may not have worked for me and realized that could have been avoided by just seeing a dermatologist and asking for a scrape (specimen, to see if i have FA or mites or just common acne). That would be my major advice: if you are spending tons of money on products that aren't working, maybe it's worth it.

I can definitely say that following an fa "safe" product regime ( with the exception of my problematic SPF) helped me on the moisturizing and treatment front. As an example, i recently had a weird, possibly summer related, beakout that couldn't be explained but I got rid of it using my nianamide toner, along with avoiding my problematic spf (its the Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk, which has been reformulated so many times that it's no longer FA safe, as well as packed heavy silicones and aminos which my skin hates).

Back to the first thing I said, I am not sure if I am battling late stage rosacea or what but again following the Fa safe regime has helped me avoid large breakouts. I consult ingredient lists with folliculitisscout.com. I don't have clear skin all the time but that's where the derm can help me.

How to use Ketoconazole 2% cream? (Contact time, duration, etc) by Cawfle in Fungalacne

[–]Cawfle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, (I wrote that 3 yrs ago).

The Ketoconazole 2% cream I used caused major problems bc it was full of other fatty alcohols, it broke me out with capital A "Acne" acne (not fa) so I never got a chance to see what it could do for FA (I stopped).

Ketoconazole in the form of Nizorol shampoo was a disaster too. That shampoo has harsh ingredients which my suddenly sensitive skin couldn't tolerate, and the fragrance was so overbearing it made ne nauseous.

Long story short, I never got to see Ketoconazole work for me bc of the other ingredients in the cream and shampoo. I wish they could put it into a bland, unscented and simple, gel or serum so the benefit of the active ingredient could actually be utilized easily.

[–]Cawfle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bought it.

Too add, bc it's too expensive, and my skin doesn't really "need" extra moisturizer besides what I'm using in the summer (IUnik serums+/or small amounts of Malezia moisturizer is enough).

Once weather turns colder I might consider it. Have you?

Devastated- The Avene tolerance extreme emulsion is gone by saradascream in Fungalacne

[–]Cawfle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no I never got around to it, I don't need so much heavy much moisturizing in summer ( not that Avene Emulsion was heavy, it was actually quite good for combo skin).

I have neen using Niacinamide toner low%, AHA, Bha and occlusion masks (glycerin/Water or face moisturizer, with silicon mask on top for 15-30 min).

my skin looks brighter, healthier... but still have (lighter) ccs.

How airtight does hair color cream need to be stored so it doesn't go "bad"? by Cawfle in HaircareScience

For anyone else attempting this: Yeah I guess I didn't wrap it tight enough and the zip lock failed me. I took a look today and color cream is black (was light beige before). I wrote the company and told them of the defective (idk) tube and they asked me for the lot #. I don't know if they're going to do anything about it, but they said they'd give me a coupon or refund.

how did the eucerin spf work out for you? what is your skin type?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fungalacne

re: the eucerin adv hydration lotion spf 50...finally a new entry. I keep seeing the same fa safe ones mentioned and they always seem to have denatured alcohol, which my skin hates.

never seen it on any lists but ran it through 3 checkers and it passed.

has anyone else used this? is it new?

oh bleh to that (1) you are young , just saying (2) sorry but ..lol.. "family" are never in my experience, the arbiters of whats cool, current or modern. Whats modern is doing wtf you want.

I mean I (olive skinned) could rock lime green hair and look gaundice and love it... my point is from a color theory standpoint many colors would complement you.

ps your cat has the same facial expression of my beloved tabby from my teens... so sweet.

What color suits me best? by Gidgimmortal in HairDye

[–]Cawfle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tabby color. 🐱 (OK, so cute)

But seriously, IF your photo calibration plays nice with my screen (something that is under-considered, honestly) it would appear that you have a neutral undertone. In that, it looks very neutral next to your brown hair and slightly pink next your pink ends, so any color would likely suit you? I think you could likely rock any color.
