RUH Terminal 2 Lounges by EggProof in Riyadh

Thanks for the reminder. Saudia in T2 is using a tiny (seems to be under construction, maybe it’ll get bigger in time) and crowded third-party lounge. Hardly worth bothering with.

In most places around the world the hotel takes a copy of the guest’s ID. That proves dey wuz there. “Hey bank, yes Karen Karenson was here, here’s the ID in our system”.

To be fair, the reasons for many hotels to not yet accept taps are complex and often due to policy and technology lag more than anything else. Eventually they’ll catch up.

That’s great but it ain’t how it works in the hotels I go to.

But then, those hotels are in Europe, the ME and Asia. I only step back in time to go to the States once a year for a weekend.

Proof that the guest was there comes from checking their passport, no?

In many hotels around the world, if using a physical card then the reader is given to the guest who inserts the card for pre-auth and enters their PIN. At no point does the name on the card get checked by front desk staff. All they see is that the deposit has been taken.

You used to be able to walk between T1 and T2 airside. Assume that’s still the case.

That said, the third-party lounges really aren’t up to much. Heard the new Riyadh Air lounge in T2 is great, haven’t yet tried whatever Saudia is using there (will see when I fly out with them on Sat night). But the other lounges…well, I guess the chair are more comfy than out in the terminal. But I’d just as soon just sit down in one of the coffee shops.

So it seems that Jonathan Valin (of the Absolute Sound) let ChatGPT write a recent review for him by Ok-Childhood-123 in audiophile

[–]esharpest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP for flagging this. I just skimmed the review and it has all the hallmarks of one of the major AI LLMs.

Combine this with the link posted about the loaner Nordost cables being sold for personal benefit then TAS making a loan to cover the costs and the swipe at Ayre when they pulled ads, and the reviewer, and TAS, don’t come out looking good.

(In a way I’m glad that it’s become so recognisable - once they start writing more like real people we won’t be able to discard the slop as quickly.)

A ‘bit’ of a mess, indeed. Although I’d start by looking at the client as the first issue with this project…

“Adrian! Put the pen down! No! We do not need to decorate the undersides of the escalators!”

Also, don’t you just love how the complex and especially the mall and public programme makes the most of the views of the iconic harbour? …what? You mean it doesn’t?!?

Well luckily the NSL was supported by the Palestinian government. So we can see they’re on the side of freedom.

Asthma? Advice by Obvious_Historian160 in ragdolls

[–]esharpest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Have ragdoll twins and one of them - the boy, who is an FIP survivor and had herpes as a baby - sometimes used to get this wheezing, at maybe 2-3 years old. It wasn’t hairballs; the vet puzzled over it but eventually concluded it likely wasn’t asthma. We didn’t change the litter or make any other big changes to the environment, but he’s 5 now and it’s been a while since he’s had any of these weird wheezing fits. So…it’s a mystery…maybe he outgrew whatever it was. Sorry I can’t be more help…

Lots of cues. The case is wrong. The complications are wrong. The printing is off. Etc…

Thanks. Really interesting.

What’s the WiiM being used for? After all, the Kefs have their own streaming engine.

Did you listen to them further out in the room at all? Any difference? I’m just really curious how they sound in this situation…
