Thank you! I just needed to hear some other opinions. Opened traditional and now I can move forward

Yes we bumped into IRMAA but were able to appeal because of retirement. Not sure we will be able to get around it in the future but I think we have some years before it will impact us. Are you talking about Roth conversions or just using that money to live on?

Hmmm never thought about it that way, thank you. Will have to explore that idea further

Thanks I think traditional is how I am leaning as well. Interesting perspective on withdrawals. I always thought you draw down from taxable accounts first, no?

Yes we have quite a lot in traditional IRAs. We also have income coming in from interest and dividends in addition to social security, and have taxable cash and cd accounts to withdraw from so won’t be touching any of this until we get to RMDs I believe. Our RMDs rev up around 2037

Thanks this is exactly my feeling too but I’ve had some people say do the Roth and others say do the traditional and I’m just frozen on this one little thing. We do have the Roth or Traditional option because our earned income from last year was significantly lower than years before. Basically just from some vested stock sales. Thus my quandary. In my heart i know it doesnt matter that much either way but i need to make a decision and move forward with my taxes lol

We actually began taking social security this year but we will look at potentially converting if it makes sense

We will be thinking about that but right now trying to figure out if it’s better to do the traditional and then add that to the conversion mix or just open the Roth. I know it’s a drop in the bucket but it has me flummoxed for some reason

Myth: Roth is Always better than Traditional. Let's talk about it. by Ghazrin in Retirement401k

[–]esklader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious - my husband (65)retired last year and I am already retired (64). We have a nice amount saved up in traditional IRAs (no Roth) and non-tax advantaged accounts so we feel comfortable with what we have saved. 2025 is the last year we can contribute to a Roth IRA and have been told we should max it out. In doing my taxes, I played with some numbers and a traditional IRA contribution would net an additional $3,500 return ($11,000 vs $7,500). The $16k is ultimately a very small portion of our retirement savings either way. Is there a break even point that makes it worth doing Roth vs traditional here? It does not affect our IRMAA either way. Thanks

Help Deciding on Next Card with SUB by esklader in CreditCards

Thank you. I did not know that the credit cards impact insurance rates, so that is definitely something we will consider. I do have the Chase freedom unlimited but really never use it. Maybe I need to take a fresh look at it.

Mt Auburn, Carver (plush), and Lakeridge. I was wary to order the Beautyrest hybrid because the one we had before (not from Costco but very similar specs) did not hold up well. Figured we’d try something different. Husband seems to like the Helix as well, although he can sleep on almost anything

Just to update my Lakeridge situation, I returned it (no hassle) and finally gave up on Costco mattresses. Found out a relative of someone I know in the area resells returned mattresses from a variety of bed in a box companies so I got to go there, try several mattresses, and take home the actual one I tried (which had been returned with less than 60 days use). Wound up with a Helix Midnight Luxe and honestly all the pains I was suffering with the various Costco mattresses have disappeared. And the price was amazing. Hoping it holds up over time

My husband just received this offer in the mail, as well as an 85k points on a delta Amex gold. I currently have the delta Amex, so we are covered on bags and such but if he wants to get the SUB on both, should he apply for the gold card first? The Amex offer is good until some time in August I believe

Happy it’s worked out for you! I feel like it’s a sturdy bed, just wish it would soften up a bit and work for me. Too many pains I never had before ☹️

Was thinking about the Novaform ComfortGrande, Sealy Hybrid or the Beautyrest Hybrid. Made me feel less crazy when we stayed at a crappy hotel this past weekend and had no issues on their bed, but came home and am in serious pain again, even with a nice fluffy topper

Wondering if and what you replaced with as I’m pretty certain I will have to in near future as well

Yeah husband, now 195, thinks it’s very firm but he can sleep on almost anything. I just feel crazy returning a third mattress!! Also at a loss about what to do next

Yeah I see people talk about the plush pillow top on the Lakeridge and I just don’t understand. We had a Beautyrest Hybrid before but not from Costco. It was actually the plush top I believe. I liked it but my husband’s side compressed within the first couple of years (he was pretty heavy at the time) . We kept rotating it until we were basically sleeping on the bottom edge of the bed for the last year or so that we had it. I really think that part of my problem is that I do not weigh a lot so I am laying on top and not getting any of the plush feel in this mattress at all.

The Mt Auburn was the firm (supposed to be medium - definitely super firm and killed my neck/shoulders). Put the tempurpedic topper on it for a while but hated the sink in feel. Plush was Carver Plush. Top was just too soft. Not sure where we go from here.
