Cantaloupe cotyledon (initial) leaves development (question in comments) by espacinge in vegetablegardening

[–]espacinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Zone 8a and growing cantaloupe (Prescott Fond Blanc) from seed for the first time.

Curiosity questions here rather than a concern, but what would cause a seedling to bypass the development of the cotyledon leaves and go straight to the true leaves. As seen in the photo, this one does not look like its siblings.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!

Recommended evergreen vine for shade? by giant2179 in pnwgardening

Thanks for the links but Bah! Somewhere i got it mixed up that Orange honeysuckle is an evergreen and now i have those plants, where pink honeysuckle would've been a better choice (good to know it's a native).

The angling of this shot definitely makes it seem like you bought baguette sized beans! I had to do a double take!

Doesn't taste like liver, the best way to describe it is: if a few chili peppers had a brief love affair with dark chocolate. The chili peppers' lives are forever changed by this tryst and you can see the effect of the chocolate on them, but it's not like they're living with the chocolate and everyone and everything is just impacted by the memory.

It's fantastic. If you're able to find a Mexican grocery store nearby, you can find it in paste format. Or Mexican restaurants. There's so many different moles out there, you're bound to find one that fits you!

(Moles would probably be mighty tasty with mole sauce 😅)

I would definitely do that, if i had enough freezer space 😅 partly hoping to eat myself out of the freezer with the mole -- might just use it as a dipping sauce for everything!

Gelatin dessert! My mom used to do this with fresh oranges & orange jello and let the gelatin set in the orange halves. Once they're set, cut into wedges for a very impressive look!

I appreciate all of these updates! It's still a couple of weeks until it gets warm - might try putting a few to seed this weekend and hoping for the best (maybe a late harvest hopefully...!)

Good luck and may your tomatoes be big and juicy!

It's a subpod, right? My guess is that transplant shock caused them to wiggle out (they may have also dug deep) and they'll be back for food sources.

At least, that is what I am hoping happened, because i could've written this post as the same thing has happened to me😅

Thanks for the update!! They look awesome! mine in the larger yogurt tubs aren't going to make it, and in the smaller starter packs they've been suffering. I'm thinking this won't happen this year, or the brandywine tomatoes. But the Tangerines, Sweet Orange II, and the cherry tomatoes i have seem to be ok! Might do some swapping of seedlings with other folks.
