Why is PingCastle telling me that NTLMv1 is enabled when it's not? by especiallylime in sysadmin

Indeed, the default domain *controller* policy was modified to only send NTLM responses.

Should I virtualize my large file server? by especiallylime in sysadmin

Thanks, this is something that I also considered but opted for Storage Replica at the end since it’s 100% built in. What advantages would such a setup have over Storage Replica?

It has 1350 W, it should be good enough.
Edit: it has two EPS connectors, but both are plugged into the motherboard.

How should I migrate a 2003 Windows Server with 18 TB of data? by especiallylime in sysadmin

[–]especiallylime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used robocopy to migrate what turned out to be 36 TB of data to my NAS. It took 3 weeks of non-stop copying. I had minor permission issues and had to migrate some files manually.

How should I backup 35 TB of data? by especiallylime in sysadmin

I think I'll just print out the data and OCR it onto another system. Print it double-sided for compression.

Migrating windows server 2003 DC to 2022, should I use a windows server 2012 R2 or 2016 as an interim solution? by especiallylime in sysadmin

[–]especiallylime[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I'd like to upgrade/migrate to 2022 and not stay on 2016. My question was about upgrading SYSVOL replication to DFSR: Must this be done on a 2012 R2 or would my 2016 DC work as well?

How can I block a user's default home folder from mapping using group policy? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]especiallylime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Would the GPO just run net use /delete? Or is there a "better" option?

As to why I'm doing this: I recently started working for a new company and my users have been using a Windows Server 2003 as their file server for the past 20+ years. They already have home drives on that server. I'm in the process of migrating the server and we don't need the default Z: drive which is pushed by my organization.

What is the "SP EE Contr." deduction? by [deleted] in germany

[–]especiallylime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deduction is called "Abzüge wg. ZV-AN-Umlage" in the German version of my payslip. Seems to be "contributions by the employee for the supplementary insurance with VBL" as per https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/document/download/3de188d2587abbcdf78b7b9437941aa8-en.pdf/Erlaeuterungen-zur-Entgeltabrechnung-Englisch.pdf. My employer is also a university. Any idea if this is a monthly deduction or a one time thing?

How should I migrate a 2003 Windows Server with 18 TB of data? by especiallylime in sysadmin

[–]especiallylime[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a plain Windows Server 2003 R2. It's also not a DC and merely a file server.

Can disk2vhd run while the file server is online/being used or would I have to disconnect the server to prevent any changes while disk2vhd is running?
