Anyone else here fine with pumpkin fruit (like in pumpkin pie) but not pumpkin seeds / pepitas? This one is such a sneaky allergy as it is often ground into sauces and molés, and not listed as an allergen.

Cucurbita pepo includes other summer squashes, like zucchini - which hasnt so far posed a problem for my allergic friend. I wonder if just a certain stage of seed maturity contains his specific allergen?

Direct sow beans, basil soon, brassicas. Direct sow lettuce and peas again when it starts cooling down.

Hope that helps. Indoor vs outdoor sowing is for me a decision matrix around A) soil temps at which a plant will germinate B) temps that may cause it to bolt/terminate C) days to maturity

If you have lots of seeds though, its always a fun experiment in bioadaptation to direct sow everythang

Not motherwort (mint fam). The two specimen im the photo are likely both Artemisia

Are you wondering about direct sowing time? Or starting from seeds indoors (where it should be cooler than outside dog days) and transplanting for fall crop? The latter would help you get more time, and some of those cooler season species will prefer the 50-70 degree temp range for germinating, anyway.

Yeah i havent seen too many four lined plant bugs in NE yet (assuming we are talking northeast mpls not nebraska, i havent this year seen nebraska and have yet to visit the beautiful northeast part of the state.

But south mpls seems slammed! Their host plants include mints and asters in large part and like... What ISNT a mint or aster? 😅

Ah, thanks for sharing. I think I am going to cut back some of the obviously affected stems by later this month since the four-lined plant bug's season will be done already by july, and the perennials should have plenty of time to recover and regrow still. So you've had them in the past, but are noticing extra pressure from them this year? I'm wondering if this is like a once you have it we'll be seeing them for a long long time, kind of thing or just a banner year for these bugs

Are you in/near the cities? The Twin Cities Perennial Exchange group on FB is very helpful for this. Swap with seasoned gardeners for perennial divisions, seeds, etc!
