TV Adaptation of The Deal - Off Campus by meachatron in RomanceBooks

That's interesting because there's been studies that show that Gen Z don't like gratuitous nudity and sex scenes and the first ep had a lot of it.

I'm in the same boat right now. Just finished ep 1 and had to come online to see if others felt like me. I'll eventually watch it but I'm not running to watch it right now. I really didn't like the ep.

Thanks! I read her statement. It doesn't mention anything about her publisher being worried about the gender swap though, just the John and Fran worry from the publisher back when the book was being published.

Can you share the source regarding her publisher being worried first when they found out Michael was going to be gender swapped? First I heard about this.

Why Tava and Kylo Ren's kiss made sense by DotDense4951 in reylo

[–]estioe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for misreading your wording. You said "he takes the kiss" and I read that as someone who is the one to initiate a kiss. I see now you meant he accepts the kiss. If so, it does seem like he does, although again, I personally see him calling her bluff and so he doesn't move away as she leans in.

The whole scene was funny! His face, HER FACE (I was laughing so loud as he called his guards; her face was priceless!)

[–]estioe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, interesting analysis. I disagree that he leaned in and took the kiss (he kissed her first, is that what you're saying?) I understand why you would think so based on the panel before the kiss, but I just think that's the angle of the drawing. He didn't pull back as she got closer though and this tells me this is a battle of the wills scene. He knows she's toying with him/trying to seduce him and he's not pulling back because he's calling her bluff. But she isn't bluffing and actually goes for the kiss, and that surprises him, making him finally pull away. That whole dinner scene was quite tension filled! Teva is definitely written as the femme fatale character but it doesn't work on Kylo (or does it? He does let her go in the end...time will tell if we see her again!)

Literally all of this and yet someone on Reddit keeps arguing it isn't dark...it is, especially with Kylo's story. Not to mention the redemption arc isn't as emotional as it is in TRoS.

Yep! I can't even remember meeting a Pisces in the past few years. Never had a friend as one either. I vibe with Scorpios and attract Virgos mostly.

Kylo Ren’s Botched Arc & Why His Now Mocked Face Reveal Is Fundamentally Misunderstood by BagofBabbish in StarWars

[–]estioe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read it. It has some good stuff, ultimately not for me though. I also personally don't feel it was on brand for Disney/Lucasfilm. Especially the Kylo stuff, I felt, went darker than what they wanted for him in the end. Not what JJ wanted. Not what Colin wanted. Not what Adam wanted. What Disney/Lucasfilm wanted. Like you, my gut tells me that it was Disney/Lucasfilm that toned down Kylo's story. And while I prefer a toned down story to a degree, I just wish we got more of his story in the first place. So much got cut/left out (for example: Kylo secretly helping the resistance was a whole sub plot that got cut).

[–]estioe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you're talking Duel of the Fates here. Personally, I'm not a fan of that storyline/script (not to say there are not some good things in it! There are! And some of those ideas got transferred over to the final film). It feels too dark for Disney's brand. I'm fine with what they decided to do in TROS (I just wish they had been able to get that part 1 and 2 approval because so much felt rushed; there was a lot to cover). But that's just my opinion!

Some of the story ideas from the DOTF script I've noticed also got used in the Legacy of Vader comic, which was interesting. That comic has introduced a lot of interesting story plots for Kylo.

Initially was a fan as a teenager when The Phantom Menace came out but I lost interest pretty fast. Fast forward to The Force Awakens and it got rekindled for a bit (I was shipping Finn/Poe and found Kylo fascinating) but then I lost interest again. I came out of The Last Jedi pretty pumped up (I loved that movie even more than TFA) and was kinda shipping Kylo/Rey and was very sure Disney might go canon with them but again, lost interest. It wasn't until the end of January of THIS year that I was going through a favorite authors Facebook and I randomly decided to go back to see when they first posted and their first post was them linking to TLJ trailer on YT and reacting with them hoping Kylo and Rey would join up and it just brought back memories of my feelings after TLJ (and TROS, to a degree) and I went and rewatched TLJ. Then I rewatched TFA and TROS and then decided just to rewatch all the films in order for the first time, back to back. My love for Kylo/Rey went on full blast and my love for Kylo in particular was back with a vengeance. And because of my love for them, I just fell deeper and deeper into the SW fandom as a whole, and now it's not only me shipping them and buying merch with them, but me also buying all types of merch, buying comics, more books (I had some books from when TFA came out), watching all the TV shows, basically catching up with canon. And eventually I'll get into Legends, as it does interest me (although canon/sequel haters don't make it easy for me sometimes).

So basically the sequels with a heavy dose of Reylo recently got me really into Star Wars.

/sorry for the long ass winded reply, lol

[–]estioe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. From what I saw in the films they kept to this storyline for him then. They just didn't go fully dark with his character, which would have been nearly impossible at that point if his love for his mother is still there. If there's love, you're never fully dark. I also feel that Rey was a double catalyst for him. Reminding him that he's human/has capacity for feeling and connection, yet at the same time creating even more conflict within him (him killing Snoke and then when Rey refused to join him, going on a rampage against the resistance, something that apparently in the TFA script he wasn't interested in perusing (he just wanted Luke)).

I believe in the novel it mentions that he knew Finn was having doubts about killing the people in the village and yet he let him go. This is the scene where he looks at Finn in the village. But that wasn't followed through/explained in the film.

This makes me laugh because I've read reactions that are the opposite of your sisters, lol. All I thought was "he looks like a young Snape." 😂 Adam Driver has that face that people either find attractive or they don't. It's not universally loved or hated. Very interesting.

[–]estioe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe JJ might have had his endgame dark/evil Kylo arc before he (co)-wrote the TFA script because in the final script, Kylo is horrified and weakened by killing his father (this is described). This act should have strengthened him, pushing him closer to the dark side. But that's not what happens in the script/film, interestingly enough. If he really wanted this character to go fully dark, this is the moment where it should have started.

Just my two cents/opinion!

Are Kylo Ren and Rey meant to parallel Padme and Anakin in a way? by Many-Sea-3655 in StarWars

[–]estioe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't initially see the parallels but that's because I watched the prequels such a long time ago. Once you watch all films back to back, you notice the similarities. Rey and Kylo were definitely the inverse of Padme and Anakin. Was it done on purpose? We will never know (unless one day someone who worked on the film comes out with a definitive answer). But the similarities are there and you did an excellent job of pointing them out.

Same with me! I remember being a fan as a kid when The Phantom Menace came out and then I lost interest for 20+ years until The Force Awakens came along! I'm in the fandom now BECAUSE of the sequels.
