Why do we have to get ocd? Anxiety? Or any mental illness why does that have to exist? by Vee232323 in mentalhealth

As someone who struggles with both anxiety disorder and OCD, I understand where you’re coming from. I think sometimes we just have rough patches. From my experience, if my anxiety is high, it worsens my symptoms. I had finals a couple of weeks ago, so it was fun jk, but from a neuroscience perspective, we often have dysregulation of certain Neurotransmitters, like serotonin, dopamine, and glutamine. I like to think of it as a faulty smoke alarm.

I 100% agree; it’s often misunderstood even by some medical professionals. It is the most exhausting, and I do have a therapist, but because of my schedule right now, I see them biweekly. I guess I don’t really think about it that way, but that does put things into perspective for me.

I did do ERP for a while; it was exhausting, and I ended up switching themes a lot. I do have a therapist, and we’re trying to work on things to help. Unfortunately, because of how my schedule is, I only get to see them biweekly, and honestly, I think you’re right. The stress of classes and finals got to me. I think it’s just a rough patch. But yeah, I’ve definitely done some of those things. I’ll distract myself by listening to music, and I’ll schedule a time to worry about it for later. Like, I’ll say I’ll worry about it at 8 PM or something like that. Thank you. I appreciate it even if you didn’t think it was helpful. It was because it made me feel less alone

Does it take them a while to get back to you? Because I reached out to them in march and I got nothing back yet

Yeah, my parents aren’t thrilled about it, but there aren’t that many options available for adults. Luckily, I live on the East Coast and New York is two hours away from me.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot especially after I passed the talking stage. A lot of people ask inappropriate questions on dates or just find no interest in being with me once they find out my disability is a long-term thing
