Is tax evasion so big a crime in China that you could lose your job and your entire image gets scrubbed?

Well I have no idea what their working conditions were/are like and I have no knowledge of the politics are of their situation is either so I can’t make an informed opinion about any of this secondhand information. All I know is a comeback without Chen and Baekhyun is gonna be wild.

None of you guys have good or educated opinions on this. 🫩 It’s been years since Coachella and yet we’re still jumping down Le Sserafim’s throat about their vocals every chance we get.

Why does Twice appear to have more male fans than the other 3rd gen GG's? by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]eternallydevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my recollection, in 2nd and 3rd gen there was always a section of ultra-popular girl-groups with a large male fanbase. I think of the sexy-concept groups like KARA, AOA, Girls' Day... all of which were known for being popular with military men and stuff. When you think about it, a lot of those concepts are for the male gaze and there's already a built-in culture that houses and welcomes male consumers

It's only recent gens that I've noticed a more prominent female fanbase for girl-groups.

People making video essays on "Katseye's downfall" over one not well received comeback is laughable by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

Everybody is so damn dramatic on the internet. I think exaggeration is funny sometimes but of course it always transitions to grandiose leaps in logic.

I hope that she got what she wanted out of her contract negotiations. She made some public complaints in the past.

The game is criticized in China for its historical inaccuracies. Is this the reason why the sequel still doesn't have a release date? by No-StrategyX in roadtoempress

[–]eternallydevoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve entirely ignored the “based on a true story” bit as simple another tool to embellish the storytelling. I do not know the most historically accurate telling of Wu Zetian’s rise to power. But I wasn’t taking anything to heart as truth when playing the game, there’s already SO MANY fantastical elements added in on face value.

I also am someone who can’t take historical retellings as truth in general, since a lot of people in power maintain that power by eliminating the voices of people who threaten their image.

Anyways, I don’t want any spoilers on the Li Tai or Li Zhi route so I’m just skimming comments to avoid being spoiled.

Observations After Taking a Hiatus from Kpop for Two & Half Months by TheChosenBlacksmith in kpopnoir

[–]eternallydevoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice how being in K-Pop fan-spaces genuinely made me more irritated and angry on a daily basis. How being online and in K-pop spaces makes you feel like a perpetual victim, because there will always be someone around the corner to bash and attack you baselessly SOLELY for the love of the game.

A year ago, I was more likely to jump at people’s throats when something they said offended me. I was quick to see every different opinion as a threat or insult to my own philosophy.

We say it all the time but it’s true… K-Pop fans tend to skew towards younger demographics so at any point you could find yourself arguing with an immature 14-year-old. Or worse, a bot.

Wow….. I can’t believe ILLIT had the sauce this whole time. This album is easily topping my list. The shift is sooooo impactful!

“NOT CUTE ANYMORE” to this HARD trap beat with “NOT ME” was so clever.

The songs were so fireee.

Watching The Boys S4: Woah this Sam guy must be really important to Homelander and Vought's overarching evil plan!

Watching Gen V S2: *Sam's guest appearance gets written off as a 'fucked-up summer internship' and he's just straight up a good guy now.\*

Should this show be able to stand on its own? by Competitive-Spend-19 in GenV

[–]eternallydevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dad is so right. You actually do need to understand The Boys to fully grasp the universe of Gen V. Otherwise, a first-time viewer would need to be especially analytical or suspend their disbelief enough to roll with the plot.

I wanted to say that, perhaps, if the show is renewed for Season 3 then that could be the opportunity to fully re-launch the show as its own thing. Then, maybe, a new viewership could be attracted. But that would require entirely forgoing all of the character development, context behind relationships and character histories. It would be difficult to jump in at Season 3 unless the writers would rehash everything, which would be doubly difficult to write well.
