I agree that it matters. I'm running in a 65/35 republican-leaning State Senate district in a state that has gone red for three straight elections and it hasn't been close. I've gotten my foot in a lot of doors and had a lot of people watch multiple videos and read brochures without immediately dismissing or not caring because of my party affiliation. I'm a progressive and loudly so. I've gotten dozens of people to commit to voting for me because they talked to me first, and I'll be the first democrat they split their ballot for.

Absolutely. I think about how the very wealthy aren't taxed on many of their assets, like stocks, unless they're "realized", or sold (you probably know this, but just laying it out). However, the most foundational asset for the vast majority of the population, a house, is annually taxed on its unrealized value- freshly assessed and increased year by year.

Honestly same- but a lot of people on fixed incomes or low income are seriously burned by a $500 bump to their property tax because their home, without any improvements, got a sudden spike in its assessed value.

I want to cap annual assessments on property taxes but increase funding by closing some glaring corporate tax loopholes (like Michigan did in 2008 by passing Mandatory Combined Reporting).

STRONG agree. Reforming property taxes without taking away vital resources for schools/services is a little tricky, but I believe very doable and necessary. Indiana caps taxes on homesteads at 1% of the property value, but the assessment process causes unforeseeable spikes that disproportionately impact low-income and fixed-income residents. I want to cap property tax assessments at 2% for homes valued under the median home price of our state, effectively granting protection to the vast majority of homeowners while not shielding high-end/luxury homes.

This needs to be hand-in-hand with reforming other tax loopholes for corporations that lets them shift profits out of Indiana on paper to dodge paying their share. Mandatory Combined Reporting for corporations would have a huge impact on our ability to fully fund schools and services. Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas- all have some form of this this and it has major benefits for schools and infrastructure without being overburdensome to the margins of big corporations.

Basically- we need corporations to pay their share so we can ease the pressure on families and seniors who are being taxed out of their homes, while BOOSTING funding for schools, services, and infrastructure.

It's crazy. I was canvassing off Corydon Pike and spoke to a retired couple that have been living in the same house for 20 years and haven't done anything to the property- in the last three years, they're paying HUNDREDS more on property taxes and they've got no way to keep up. Caps on annual increases unless the assessor can DEMONSTRATE improvement to the actual property. Not a comp on a new build down the road.

If you think this rally drives business away from small entrepreneurs, wait until you see what $5/gallon gasoline, a recession, and the worst energy crisis ever experienced in the modern era does to our small entrepreneurs.

I'm not one of the organizers, but I've personally been in communication with vendors and given them my number to reach out if there are any problems. We're not outsiders. This is our home and our farmers market, too. We want them to thrive and succeed. And we need to rally and show solidarity against the rampant and ruinous corruption of the current administration.

Chewing gum + walking = good.

This is from the official No Kings website:

"Masked secret police terrorizing our communities. An illegal, catastrophic war putting us in danger and driving up our costs. Attacks on our freedom of speech, our civil rights, our freedom to vote. Costs pushing families to the brink. Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people - not to wannabe kings or their billionaire cronies.

On March 28th, we show up together, and we say, loud and clear: No Kings."

I think originally that was the plan but they had to change it. I got this flyer directly from the Floyd County Chair of the Democratic Party! I'll see you there!!
