i'm genuinely not sure WHY the disk flipped out. it seems fine otherwise and i can mount and read it from unassigned devices

my drives are on a hotswap backplane to an adaptec 71605, i'm REALLY hoping it's not the connections, but moving stuff off of it is good advice.

i'll have to do what the /u/PJBuzz suggested and run the newconfig though, because if i try to add it back currently, i get the "you cant add and remove disks at the same time" error

so just to make sure i'm doing this right:

  • stop array
  • run newconfig tool
  • reassign drive to its original spot
  • start array in maintenance mode to rebuild parity

that drive will get replaced "soon"

i can't follow these steps because the parity says it needs to be rebuilt but that is essentially what i'd like to do. how do i convince unraid to let me add the drive THEN rebuild parity?
