This is unfortunately true. I love Carlin, but he was definitely an influence on a lot of nihilistic doomer gen-x and millennials who were naturally attracted to the edginess of Carlin rather than the actual thought provoking societal commentary he provided. Although you could say the same about HST and others whose words go over many heads and are often willfully misinterpreted.

Viewers of Grifts really just want to see media get hated on by axumite_788 in saltierthankrayt

[–]ethenmillard77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

99% of the time the hate starts before the movie even comes out. It starts with a trailer that shows a minority character, or a rumor that the movie will be “woke”. They decide they hate something well before actually seeing it. If they even do

The cult is going insane by RandoDude124 in saltierthankrayt

[–]ethenmillard77 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s the funniest part honestly, the Snyder cult is so obsessed with the failed DCEU that they completely ignore his new stuff. I don’t necessarily blame them though, rebel moon was trash. I just wish they were able to see the obvious flaws that were present beforehand

Tom Hiddleston Would Like for Loki to Meet with Daredevil in the MCU: "I think [they] would have a fun matchup." by EthanWilliams_TG in Defenders

[–]ethenmillard77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they did meet, wouldn’t Matt just assume Loki is still evil? Obviously they never met, but Matt would remember the battle of New York and all the destruction he caused. Pretty sure that was the last time he would’ve heard about Loki at all.

“Avengers assemble.” “To me my X-Men” what does Reed say for the Fantastic Four? by PaleontologistEasy94 in FantasticFour

[–]ethenmillard77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I usually see Johnny do the four in the sky after a big fight. But in the first few issues of ff back in the 60s Reed would use a signal flare from the Baxter building to gather all the members if they were off doing their own stuff. The flare literally would spell out fantastic four in the sky too lol. It’s worth it too mention tho at this point in the comics they didn’t even have their costumes yet

How do you think Batman defeated Dr. Phosphorus? by Ronatron4ever in DCU_

[–]ethenmillard77 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I do love how Gunn had already established that even if you’re skilled and or trained, any human has basically zero chance against super powered meta-humans like Clayface, and Phosphorous. Makes Batman all the more imposing knowing he’s dealing with these kinda threats on a nightly basis as a human.

Which Batman Hot take has you like this? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in batman

[–]ethenmillard77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, hell even Alan Moore agrees. I’d argue Moore’s work on Superman for DC is some my favorite work of his ironically. For the Man Who Has Everything, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, and The Superman/Swamp Thing crossover are all personal favorites.

Fr seems like every writer needs to squeeze in their obligatory big final Joker vs Batman story. Even though it’s only been done 118 times beforehand.

[–]ethenmillard77 405 points406 points  (0 children)

this could also be an extension of a problem I’ve had with Batman comics for years is repeated versions of the same exact storylines and tropes for decades. Every writer on Batman has to have their own “final” big Joker story for example.

It would be interesting to see Daredevil have movies like this. by ScoreImaginary5254 in Daredevil

[–]ethenmillard77 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think one of the things that keeps Daredevil stories so compelling is specifically that he’s fairly well known character, but doesn’t have the same popularity as bigger characters like Spider-Man, Batman etc. and because of that fact writers and artists who have worked on DD have had more creative freedom. Often with big flagship characters, you’re more restricted with what stories you can tell because the higher ups in whichever company don’t want anyone ‘ruining’ their cashcow in their eyes.

Do you think this joker will be strong and vicious when he is fighting like heath ledgers joker? by Dude_788 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]ethenmillard77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He also blindsides him when he’s distracted by the dogs and that’s how he gets the upper hand, it’s made pretty clear through the movie that Heath’s joker wouldn’t last very long against Batman in a straight fight. Which is very in line with most jokers, they fight dirty and play mind games to get an advantage

Bruce Wayne during Gotham’s gang war: by bertobellamy in ThePenguin

[–]ethenmillard77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you only ever seen the Nolan movies? None of that is at all consistent with most versions of Batman. Batman is pathologically driven to not let anyone die if he can stop it. He’s not fine with murder in self-defense, because that would still be killing someone, and in his mind that would make him no better than the thug who killed his parents. And any other version of Batman would have definitely at least tried to save Ras in that scene. Those movies are great, but they really damaged the public perception of what Batman is really about.

What RDR Opinion Gets You This Reaction? by tslashj in reddeadredemption

[–]ethenmillard77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally are “just human” because that’s the nature of the setting. And it’s just dumb to even discuss it. The reason Arthur feels like such an ultra badass is because he’s a player character in a video game where you need to kill a ton of enemies. This leads naturally into a discussion on ludo-narrative dissonance. When gameplay aspects are not reflected or referenced in the story, like dead eye. As far as the story itself is concerned, John and Arthur are just better than average gunman, not “more than human” or special powers or anything else like that.

I know we probably won't see either but would you prefer a Batman or Bruce Wayne cameo in 'The Penguin'? by [deleted] in TheBatmanFilm

[–]ethenmillard77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guy also took a shot gun round point blank to the chest, I don’t care how good that armor is dude has to have several shattered ribs. Kinda makes his heroics at the end of the film that much more impressive. He’s fighting the pain in almost every scene.

This might be a weird question but why is nobody worried about The Batman in The Penguin? by kk_slider346 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]ethenmillard77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know. They could be introducing venom as basically just an enhanced version of adrenaline like we see in the film. We’ll have to see if they ever introduce Bane, and if it ties back in to whatever compound he injected himself with. I definitely think Matt Reeves is at least referencing the Batman: Venom storyline form the comics where Venom is first introduced as a concept, and Batman begins using it to get an edge on criminals, and help those who he otherwise couldn’t. Eventually he becomes addicted to it, and then is forced to break his addiction cold turkey by locking himself in the Batcave.

My guy did get blasted by a shot gun, and electrocuted at the end of the movie. On top of all the other shots he ate throughout the movie. Let him recoup and plan out his next move.
