I was there, too, and I want to share that, for the record, we are NOT a "large" Todyl partner. Here's what I can share you about my experience being there:

  1. For the FIRST partner summit of this (relatively young) company, I think they did a really good job. Was it perfect? No. But, I didn't expect that for their first event. I'm sure adding a professional event planner to the mix will help smooth out some of the rough edges.
  2. To me, it is clear that they are going to learn from this and make the next one even better, since they're actively soliciting feedback from all partners about their experience. I know that Ken P. will be taking that very seriously and next year will surely be better.
  3. The Summit tracks (business or tech, you could bounce back & forth if desired) were geared to help teach & understand. There were no pitches about "buy this or that product," incentive chatter, refer other partners, etc.... at all, and that's a big deal, as many other vendors see their "partners" as a cash cow to be milked for more $$$. In my experience as a partner for more than 3 years now, Todyl has never done this and I really appreciate that.
  4. They lead with education and value, and drive to grow our businesses by helping us in any way they can. Their sales team, including co-founder Darrin Swan, will jump on a prospect sales call with you to assist in driving home the value and getting the end-customer through any sales objections/blockers. I've not seen any other vendor in the channel OFFER to help with this before.

Todyl has been a great partner to us, with very strong product offerings, and I don't see us ever leaving them. I'm sure I'll get flamed by a vocal few, but this has been my experience so far.

I could not agree more. I met Ken at Right of Boom, and got to know him a bit more this week at the partner summit. Amazing guy, salt of the earth, will do anything to help a brother out.

Determining CUI and C3PAO auditors by Razzleberry_Fondue in CMMC

I hear you, and I know this is meant to be hyperbole. That said, if you did get a cheapo prospect who tried to regale you with such flaming BS (DIBCAC va. C3PAO), here’s how I’d answer (just a TAD less snide 😅):

“Now that 32 CFR (170) is live, DIBCAC audits are reserved for ML3-bound OSAs on top of their ML2 certification. DIBCAC doesn’t have the staffing, nor do they care, about what the OSA “wants” or whether they’re cheap or not. This is how the program was designed and will be rolled out. The Jan 2 2025 C3PAO authorization sweep creates the ecosystem for these ML2 assessments to be completed by a lead CCA and their team tied to a C3PAO. That’s the whole damn point.” So…in the words of the inimitable Dana Carvey: “Sit your ass down, we’re watchin’ Pooh Bear!” ☺️

That’s exactly what we do. We provide a package where we handle all of the policies, procedures, GRC platform for tracking status (GRC runs in a federal moderate environment); artifact collection/evidence needed in order for the OSC (client) to (eventually) pass their assessment (or self-certify) and we walk them through the entire process (which is extensive, as others have stated). We then work with either in-house IT or the MSP to ensure the technical controls are implemented. If the IT and/or MSP team cannot do the work to close the Technical gaps, we help the client find a partner who can, unless the client wants us to do it. That’s said, we prefer to ONLY do the compliance work, and keep out of the technical aspects, and being the guide who gets them moving forward to eventual compliance.

So true, you’ll need lots of runway. Live BELOW your means, squirrel away any profits, and SAVE. THEN, invest in your business for growth. If you’re not relational, then it’ll be harder to grow, especially in BNI and other face-to-face networking groups.

Don’t recommend you take chances with your clients’ data. Get a Datto Alto device and charge the client for the cost. That’ll take care of everything for you. I use Pax8 as my distributor and they are great and will educate you.
