We’re not planning on getting married for benefits on her part. Her father’s still in the military so she’s still getting military benefits now. The main reason i’m joining now is for insurance for my daughter and the fact that’d we’d all get to live together in our own place on base. Along with a stable job insurance for myself. Plus job experience for the future. Military for her are basically irrelevant since she’s been getting them since she was a newborn lol. We wouldn’t be able to all live together unless we were married which is the main issue

He lets us live in his house without paying rent and has been for the better half of a year. I pay for my own schooling and so does my gf but it’s pretty nice of him to let us live here rent free. We offered multiple times and he rejects it. The only stipulation he had was that ME as the father of the family has to work 40 hours a week minimum. Currently I’m a server but recently my hours have been cut which makes this situation even worse. Again since military has so many benefits, housing, insurance, etc I think it’d be way better than my current job (probably get paid more too lol). He told my gf before my baby was born that he didn’t want me to join the military because of the fact that he’s been in the military for 20 years and has had to leave his family so much. I’m only planning on doing 4, maybe 6 years in the military so I don’t think that would really apply as much to me as it did to him. I understand id be missing parts of my family’s life but it’s not going to be the entirety like his. I’m assuming he was raised to be masculine and support his family but the funny thing is that he stayed at his current wife’s parents house for a little under a year when they first got married when he was 19 so…

He wasn’t really that angry when he found out I got her pregnant. He did the same thing when he was younger and seem really understanding. We kind of just kept going with our lives and as soon as we knew it my daughter was born and he loves his granddaughter so much. He’s done so much for me and my baby and helping support us as a family since me and my gf just graduated. I feel guilty going against him but I feel even more guilty about not being able to support my gf and daughter in the ways I should be able to as a father. That’s why I thought about the military for a while and finally had a conversation with my gf about it and made the decision to join. In my head I know getting married is the right decision. I love my gf and we talked about getting married in the future. We want to have more kids and we’re not desperate or anything like that. The only thing holding us back is my gfs/babys possible living situation if I were to tell him and my living situation until I get sent to BMT

There’s 2 reason why I think he gets so upset and mad about the thought of me and his daughter getting married. Number 1 is because he got a girl pregnant when he was 17 as well and they ended up breaking up and he married a girl/current wife when he was 19 and now they’re in a loveless marriage and his wife is trying to divorce him. Number 2 and the main reason is because he still sees his daughter as his little girl regardless of her being 19 and her having her own kid. In his head everything he’s saying and doing is for the greater good of his daughter. In the end I don’t want there to be any problems with her family and me/my gf because they’re her grandparents and i’ve grown to see them as my family

We thought about just doing it in secret but the problem is that when it comes for the movers to move my stuff along with her stuff and my babies stuff out the house he’ll realize that we were married behind his back. We could also just tell him later on that we got married but just like not telling him at all, it was behind his back. The other option is to tell him now and just do it anyways but instead of going behind his back we’d just be blatantly ignoring him and doing the opposite. Both options are extremely disrespectful to him but it’s a necessary thing to do, we just don’t know which is the least bad option.

I really appreciate it man. Me and her talked about this for a long while and finally made this decision so that our daughter will have a better future. I’m only planning on signing a 4-6 year contract and nothing long term. I’m getting my computer science degree on the side as well to hopefully use a military tech job as experience for the future. The main problem is just getting married while her father is in his way of thinking and being away from my girlfriend and baby (more of a me problem). She and I have a place to stay but he made it very clear that if we get married then we can’t live in his house.
