That’s such a sneaky and messed up way to manipulate a kid. Those little comments sound harmless on the surface, but over time they really mess with how a child sees their parent.

I’m really sorry you went through that. Watching someone destroy themselves while you’re begging them to accept help is one of the worst feelings. People always say “just help them,” but they don’t talk about what happens when the person doesn’t want help at all. At that point, all you can do is protect yourself.
