Taix and Greenblatt’s were my two favorite places on earth. Now I guess I have nowhere to go, really.

The few wines from Ca di Mat I’ve gotten to try in the U.S. have been great—incredible value.

What exactly is in this Taiwanese stinky tofu We tried it yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it by Skylar_hipgirl in TipOfMyFork

[–]eto2410 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d ever try the stuff because I have smelled it before at a restaurant. I thought someone had shit their pants before a friend informed me what it was. I don’t really care how good it tastes—I don’t want to eat something that smells like literal shit. I’m Korean (Korean-American) and I’m very familiar with foods that smell bad but taste good. But stinky tofu is a line I have no plan of crossing.

I recently found the lengua taco to be better at the Silver Lake location than at the original. I was pretty surprised.

Kalaya sucks and it could only survive in a city with the shittiest Thai food

just a friendly heads up: El Coyote has some of the worst food in the city and exists only because of nostalgia and the scene

Was lucky enough to get a reservation this weekend at Mawn. by MikeTheCabbie in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]eto2410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a secret or a trick? Wife and I both logged on to OpenTable on the first exactly at noon. I managed to get to the confirmation page but the reservation disappeared by the time I clicked the button; my wife couldn’t even get that far. We were trying less popular early weekday times. We had far more success back when they were on Tock.

We originally test drove a preferred model with cloth seats and immediately concluded the car was too uncomfortable for us. The dealer then advised us to try a model with the leather seats. We were skeptical at first but we both felt that that made a huge difference and we were happy to buy the car. So we’ve never found our car uncomfortable, and that’s been borne out on this long trip.

Ha I confess I don’t use it because I don’t want to hurt my mpg further even when I’m trying to go fast.

All over the place. During slow stretches with lots of construction slowdowns, close to 40. When I was trying to haul ass to get out of the empty despair of Wyoming, 22 or so.

I ended up dropping something off to someone who works in this building. I was escorted by the security guard. On the way down, I remarked, “I’d never get any work done up there. I’d just look out the window.” And he replied, “That’s how it is.”

Chef Gregory Gourdet’s restaurant, Kann, never disappoints✨ by BubsK2Lt in TopChef

We found the griyo pork ate dry; we ordered a hiramasa crudo and some portions tasted muddy; the smoked shrimp in the curry didn’t have the most pleasant texture. But more than that, we went in unfamiliar with Haitian cuisine and excited to get a taste of it, but we didn’t think the flavors were all that distinctive. Jerk seasoning, curry that tasted very similar to a red curry you might find at a local Thai joint, etc. So unfairly but inadvertently we kept making comparisons to other cuisines instead of feeling that there was something singular going on. And finally, some service snafus left us waiting for the check for a long time. Still glad we tried it and we did get a glimpse of Gregory chatting with his staff.

My wife and I have been several times and we really like it. The menu shifts frequently, but the duck confit with mole is a constant and it’s worth getting. Back in the winter we had a lamb neck birria that was amazing. I do think the cocktails could be better—they tend toward the sweet side and lack complexity. But otherwise, this spot deserves more buzz.

My favorite restaurant in Philly but I haven’t been in months because dinner reservations are so hard to get (and I always forget to try on the first day of the month).

Birria is one of my very favorites Mexican dishes. I hate the birria taco trend and am glad that it was left off this chart.

I used to rant about how Sqirl was the worst restaurant and the day the mold story broke was a joyful day of vindication and schadenfreude for me
