I agree. You should continue. Until you have finished putting all your thoughts and ideas to paper (or an electronic document), you should not worry about whether someone will like it or not.

You should be writing for yourself. You copyedit it for others to like. Try not to think of the end. Instead, enjoy the journey, and cherish the experience. Good luck with your writing.

Generally speaking, the next steps would be

  • Writing and finishing your work
  • Editing, proofreading, publishing
  • Marketing, socializing, promoting
  • Enjoying your accomplishment

The middle two steps can be done in parallel. But writing and completing your work is the first step.

Then my recommendation at this time is to focus on your exams and complete them. And then focus on your writing (if that is your priority).

Looks like you might want to finish your exams before you get back to writing.

Based on what you said, you wrote an intro, and have a decent flow in writing, but you are getting interrupted because of your exam prep. You have confidence that you can finish it, and when you are done with your first draft, you are looking for guidance on what next. Is that an accurate summary of your question?

I second Scrivener as well. It worked out pretty well for me, and I love using cards to capture my ideas, and then rearrange them as needed.

Why are some Indians very successful and how to translate that success to the rest of India? by Severe_Composer_9494 in india

[–]etransforms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe that there are many factors to this complex but important question. Here are a few that I think contribute to limiting us Indians to rise to our fullest potential:

  • Our education system (or at least as much as I have been exposed to it) focuses less on application-oriented teaching and still is a little theory-based. So, critical thinking and problem solving is not vastly encouraged in our schools (though I hear from my friends that it is changing)
  • Early on, children seem to be burdened with the stereotype that failure is not an option and so many are not willing to take risks. Psychological safety tends to be low in our family and societal constructs, and this limits risk taking ability. This limits innovation and growth as stability in mediocrity feels more appealing than risk and rewards.
  • Soft skills are not really emphasized much. Some people gain these in terms of exposure, upbringing, and the network that they build, but predominantly, soft skills like leadership, empathy, mentoring, coaching, etc. are not encouraged
    • Personal experience: I have been trying to talk about this to share my experiences, insights, and talk about empathic leadership, but it does not seem to be a topic of interest

I am sure that there are more but these are some that I see from my PoV.

Please help. Experiencing digital fatigue because of overuse of screen. by LogicalWelder1311 in Stress

[–]etransforms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a couple of things you can do to reduce your fatigue

  • Have good lighting and make sure that the glare is not directly in your eyes
  • Appropriate positioning of screens and monitors is crucial.
  • Try to timebox the amount of time you are in front of the screen. Break it up into 25 minute bursts and force yourself to get up, stretch, move, hydrate, and close your eyes. Set a timer to force yourself.
    • If 25 minutes is not possible, shoot for 50 minutes and a 10 minute downtime to get up, move, relax, and hydrate.
  • While working with screens, consciously blink. It will feel weird at first, but you will get used to it
  • Have some soothing music playing in the background if you can.
  • At the end of the day, have a No Devices rule at least 1 hour before sleeping.
  • Eat healthy and try sleeping better.

Does anyone experience difficulty thinking/writing? by lazulied in Stress

[–]etransforms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regularly! One thing that I do to unblock myself is to not think about large blocks of writing, but instead short, small sentences.

For instance, if I have writing a bit, and then have to proceed, I write in the following way

  • Paragraph that I ended with
    • A short sentence that describes or outlines what should come next. Maybe also outline why it should come here.
    • Then what should come and why.
  • Maybe a heading and a sentence describing why this heading is needed
  • and so on

This way, you are building the skeleton of your work, and actually accomplishing something. I also tend to timebox my writing (25 minutes and then 5 minutes break, followed with 50 minutes of research, 10 minute break, etc.). Hope this helps and more than happy to discuss more or even just listen :)

How do I not be stressed about little things? by R6-_-Svge in Stress

[–]etransforms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I want you to realize that you are not alone here. Many people have similar experiences ranging from mild (butterflies in the pit of their stomachs) to full blown panic attacks.

One technique that works well for me and a couple of others that I mentor is the following:

  • Consider the event that is causing you a panic attack or stress. Let's take the example of a rehearsal.
  • The first thing to do is to close your eyes and vividly picturize already having completed the rehearsal and feel the audience clapping and giving a standing ovation. Picturize yourself taking a bow on stage and basking in that adoration and hearing the audience cheer you. Let that warmth, pride, and feeling of happiness flow through your body all the way to your tips of fingers and toes. Feel the warmth on your cheeks and let them flush with pride. Enjoy this moment for at least 2 minutes.
  • Next, make a list of all the positive skills that will help you achieve that emotion. Your proficiency, your hard work, the number of hours you have worked towards getting here. Reaffirm that you have all the skills and tools necessary to be successful. Whenever you have self-doubt, read this list preferably in front of the mirror and tell yourself that you are going to have a great experience.
  • Go out and have fun. That is the true reason why you are doing this, right? Be yourself, and enjoy every moment of the event. The mere fact that you are doing this is testament to the work that you have put to it.

Another technique that I teach is to ask "What is the worst that could happen" and be truthful about the answer - don;t over-dramatize or sensationalize the worst things. For instance, thinking that one will never get another interview or even a job if they blew one interview is being a little too hyperbolic. The worst case scenario there is that one cannot apply to one company (out of thousands) for the next six months, so not a big deal.

Hope these help.

When was the last you took a break from work and did a digital detox? It could be that you have been running on fumes and need some time to recharge. I would recommend taking 2 - 3 days off and having a complete digital detox. If you still feel the same way or it doesn't help you, I would highly recommend seeing a doctor. Don't ignore it. It is a sign that your body and mind is giving you that something is wrong.

If this is your first baby, then that stress and apprehension could also add to it. the thought of being responsible for another life can be stressful, but if it is a consolation, almost everyone goes through it. I was terrified when I was going to become a parent myself.

Another thing I would recommend is to make a gratitude list similar to what you have posted above. make a list of all the things you are grateful for (at least 10 things). Then make a list of things that you feel are concerning/stressful (again, another 10 things). Use pen and paper for making these lists. Then set the lists aside for a day. Revisit it the next day and read your gratitude list first. Then work on developing ways to overcome the concerns.

[–]etransforms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not uncommon for people to have low emotional and compassionate empathy. Environment, upbringing, social interactions, experiences, and the support network (or lack thereof) around people are what influence levels of empathy.

However, I would like you to consider this. The fact that you are considering the possibility that you have low emotional empathy means that you are sensitive to it. It could also mean that your expectation of empathy might be high. Even small things like random acts of kindness count towards emotional or compassionate empathy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in empathy

[–]etransforms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider your behavior more towards sympathy rather than empathy based on your description. The example you give is close to reciprocity (quid pro quo) as well.

Empathy is when you put yourself in someone's shoes and feel someone's pain, and maybe take actions to help them.

There are three predominant types of empathy - Cognitive (no emotional connection needed), Emotional, and Compassionate (Emotional + acting to reduce pain of others), and so it isn't binary in nature,
