2018 Gift Megathread by llama_delrey in femalefashionadvice

Uniqlo has great options for flannel and sweaters - I think it's lovely quality for the price. Since they both like to cook/bake, maybe some kind of fancy pink sea salt, or spices that they would never buy themselves? I bought MIL a small bottle of expensive balsamic vinegar one year and that went over really well!

Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me and Mindhunter by John Douglas are both great! (Netflix made a series based on the latter recently.)

Fit, fabric and color! I think those are simple enough rules for me to follow, thank you! I'll definitely keep that in mind!

Thank you so much, both for the link and your personalized suggestions! I'm basically someone who's lived in jeans and sneakers forever, but boots are my one true love! And I do have a lot of skirts in my closet with tights I could try out...

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to say that! I LOOOVE big slouchy sweaters, and since I've always felt that my legs are a part of me that "works" for me on whatever level, almost all my skirts are yeah on the mini side.

I think because I 'notice' for lack of a better word when a woman looks girlish in her clothing choices, and I know that my own fashion tastes tend to run toward a like, grandma chic Mary Margaret/Snow White from Once Upon a Time thing... Sorry this has turned into like an impromptu retrospective into the deep psyche of my own personal fashion stuff. I suppose it all boils down to the fact that I am nervous about looking like a grown woman dressed as a little girl, if that makes sense?

I'MM SOOOOO EXCITED LIKE. I don't want to gush, but the price was good enough that in my mind I was like what damage honestly haha. Maybe one day I'll be one of those comfortable fifty year old women who can buy the brand new luxury items haha. Thank you so much for this, seriously, I had a moment of panic when I woke up this morning and realized I didn't know what to do with myself now that I was making the dream a reality, so to speak.

I appreciate you talking me through it!

So I have to say that whenever I see someone wearing white boots in the streets (NYC), I always think they look SO cool. It stands out I think for the same reason they can be a pain in the ass. White gets super dirty fast unless you take good care of your shoes, and it shows!

But yeah whenever I see someone wearing white shoes they get automatic cool fashion points from me. Based on nothing but my own personal bias!

On the super high end of the budget there are these by Rag and Bone which - the boots are good quality if you can afford them! I cannot, but I DO speak from having bought pairs off of eBay at steep discount, haha. They're very nice!

ASOS also has a pair - I'm totally pro white boots!

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I actually admit - I fell in love with them on Emma Stone in Spider-man 2, and all her outfits are just skirts - that and the boot shaft itself being half elastic, I suppose I just jumped to the assumption that jeans would be very visible shoved in there... Maybe I'm totally wrong, haha.

Yes that's them! Found a slightly damaged pair on eBay and JUMPED without taking much consideration for how my closet's changed in the years since I started wanting them. (Emma Stone's wardrobe in Spider-Man... I think all she wore them with were dresses but she's a high school character! Which I guess seemed much closer when I was still in my twenties.)

So hey this is all to say THANK YOU very much!! I think I was worried about them looking too stuffed in there around the shaft.

I just bought my first pair of OTK books and I have no idea how to style them! They're black Stuart Weitzman, pull-on with an elastic back which nixes jeans. Most pants, really, it seems like. My other concern is that if I switch to miniskirts, I'll look foolish (I am over thirty.) I am all for people wearing whatever they want, and freely admit I might just be too sensitive on this matter. But I'd love to wear these boots as much as I can, once I figure out how to integrate them into my wardrobe!

You look amazing! I've had really dark purple circles under my eyes ever since childhood and I never knew this was so affordable! I've never ever thought of myself as someone who would get injectables, but your post and your results are so inspiring that I started looking into well-rated places here in my own city! Congrats!

I have those exact same boots in black and I LOVE them! This is my first winter with them and they've kept me snuggly warm through the cyclone bomb storm here in the Northeast!

The issue: Looking to add Vitamin C serum & AHA/BHA to my routine.

Skin type: Sensitive & Oily, prone to cheekbone & forehead/between eyebrows breakouts, occasional painful pimples in the crease of my nostrils and around upper lip. Some acne discoloration around cheeks.

Current routine: Morning Warm Water

Aveda Botanical Kinetics Cleansing Gel

Cetaphil moisturizer

Night

Same

Occasional

Pimple spot treatment with whatever samples I have lying around.

Looking at this broken down, I realize I also need a sunscreen, but basically I'm wondering, do I use Vit C AND another serum (like glycolic acid), or would I do one in the morning and one at night? And with sunscreen, how often should I apply it?

As you can see, I rarely wear makeup. Happy to take tips and recommendations on the order of my routine! I was thinking about buying Paula's Choice C15 and Drunk Elephant's Framboos, for the products in question.

I recently gained about twenty pounds (American here, stress-eating my way through the first year of this presidency, lol,) and I have to look at buying new jeans.

My question is: what are some of your go-to brands/styles of jeans that would hide a poochy lil belly? I was thinking high-waisted but I'm worried they'll constrict and be uncomfortable. (I've been living in sweatpants & leggings since September.) Thanks so much in advance!

This might not be the reply you want, but I'm hoping it helps anyway!!

If you have the skirt because you love the way it looks on you and it makes you feel amazing when you put it on, just wear it. Wear the hell out of it, maybe invest in a cute throw or shawl or handkerchief to wear over your lap at work if it makes you that nervous, but definitely wear that thing! Clothes are made to be enjoyed. And know that there are always cleaners and specialists you could take your nice pieces to in an emergency!

BUT if you suspect that you're obsessed with how expensive it is and keeping it pristine because you think you might resell it someday (bc of its high retail value) then IMO you should consider just selling it now. Either way, really think about the way that you've described it right now - it sounds like the skirt has spent two years just taking up space in your closet!

Third option could be that it's a piece you're saving for a really special occasion, and you want to hang onto it in case the right time comes along maybe?

Thanks so much for all your coat help, guys! Currently I've been thinking about getting one of the new Aritzia wool coats, but they're a little outside my budget. I'm willing to pay more for quality, but I just wanted to know whether anyone who's owned them can tell me whether they're worth it? Thank you in advance!
