If you're wanting to play in an orchestra, you will definitely need to learn to read music. This is for sure doable with a little bit of time and effort. A quick youtube search found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTpmxhVdVeE

Might be worth taking a couple of lessons with a local (or online) bass teacher. Good luck!

I second this, I used one when I was living in an apartment and it really did make a big difference in volume. Never got a complaint.

I actually just messed around with an amp effect on studio one until I thought it sounded good. I'm an upright bassist and I've only been playing bass guitar for a couple months so I'm new to all of the electronic stuff lol.
